As a user affected by the Australian rollout: they're lying about pre-verification. Every Australian Discord user with whom I regularly interact is over 30, but we were still all required to verify
Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)

This is Smartwashing AI. Many know that the econ & political conditions that enable the tech industry to infiltrate every sector of public & private life are unsustainable & dangerous. But bc resistance is cast as emotional or archaic a cottage industry of wishful thinking from the left has emerged.
I think part of this is academic-brain. We've disciplined ourselves into believing that refusal or simply identifying something as irredeemable are not respectable intellectual positions. Instead, the clever posture is to wishcast a scenario on to which we can project our own smart version of sthing

it drives you insane how much erosion of freedom is justified by concern for kids when the people who actually hurt them will never face consequences

Something has definitely happened in the tech space where all of these companies have decided people will put up with literally anything because these services are "essential." There's an odd arrogance accompanying "here is our new heinous policy you'll agree to because you can't live without us."

my mom wants me to ask you for flower commissions for $15 each (even one would make her so happy). you’ll get a scanned in digital version of a painting. She’ll be doing watercolors. If you want her flower art, all you have to do is drop a reference photo of a flower that you like in the comments.

One thing I've noticed about cptsd recovery is that the pain doesn't get less intense, it just gets less frequent. Every so often it still appears and bodies me out of nowhere. (Worst part of that is that my coping strategies then get out of practice).

One more comment on the Post debacle: this hurts journalism broadly. Good journalists will go do something else. The rest will be fighting for fewer jobs and everyone will earn less. Fewer people will take up the career. The damage done is to the ecosystem, as well as the paper.

I ran out of milk for coffee, put ice cream in it instead (shhhhh), and then put the ice cream back where the milk goes, in the fridge door. Didn't realize until my husband called it out a few hours later 🫠🫠

no amount of pro-ai talking points eradicates the point that this technology in the hands of the masses virtually is destroying in real time the concept of shared reality. like, far beyond any kind of positive gain for society we see, the impact is giving all of society collective schizophrenia

there is a specific tic in the way that centrist Dems address law enforcement:

they don’t understand that the interaction with police *is* the harm. they think a show your papers situation is neutral as long as you leave walking, but police interaction is itself traumatic. It’s terrifying.

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO A PROTEST

Just saw video of ICE agents do what is natural to them -- spontaneously choose violence -- and someone was carrying their dog near a cloud of mace.

There's no reason. If you cant leave them alone, STAY HOME.

Rewording a post: The episode in which Frasier & Diane attend the Human Brutality Film Festival ("We've missed The Sorrow, but if we hurry we can still catch The Pity") was titled "If Ever I Would Leave You" after the Camelot song. That's the level of cultural knowledge they assumed you shared.
"If you watch an episode of Cheers, you might hear references to foreign filmmakers, to classical musicians, to Russian novelists. The level of assumed knowledge back then was far greater; now, TV is rarely adventurous in its allusions."

The answer to every "best show to [blank]" question remains Black Sails
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

A) hangover
B) caffeine withdrawal
C) imperialist coup in Venezuela once again harkening back to good ol' European politics circa 1300 AD
