A data point in support of your post: I often search for e-books at my local library (Regina, Canada). I checked just now & there are 157 Agatha Christies available, but only 10 hits for Harlan Ellison (whom I have always been a big fan of), and only 3 of those are collections of his stories. Sad.

Squirrels can't die from falling:
The terminal velocity of a squirrel is ~30 km/h (20 mph) compared to a human at 200 km/h (120 mph).

This, combined with their low weight & tendency to flatten out on landing, makes falls from any height survivable (though injury still possible!).

Wish we had learned about Piapot in elementary school rather than, for example, Stanley & Livingstone
Payipwat (Piapot) was a man who always put his people first. He dreamed of creating a home for the Cree in the Canadian Prairies but was blocked at every turn by the Canadian government.
His refusal to stop the Thirst Dance led to his removal as chief.
This is his story.

On D-Day, 14,000 Canadians landed at Juno Beach, supported by the Royal Canadian Navy and the RCAF. The day saw 1,074 Canadian casualties, including 359 killed. It was a watershed moment in human history.
Here are Canadians stories from that day.

Thanks for this. A terrific time capsule of 1970s Regina. “Chairman Wally” with his little red book. Vintage street views. Gigantic Detroit sedans in parking lots. Lorne Harasen. And those gigantic sideburns!

On this day in 2022, Mike Bossy died.
Among his many accomplishments, his 0.76 Goals-Per-Game Average remains a record to this day.
He is considered by some to be the greatest natural goal scorer in NHL history.
This is the story of Mike Bossy.

Oh rats. I only recently learned that ending texts with a period signalled hostile intent … Now I find out adding the airport hashtag to “tweets” is passé. (While I’m at it, pretty sure the ellipsis is another boomer affectation) #yqr
