I don't even know myself at this point.
Today I found out that there's an HP Lovecraft poem, "Nemesis", that has the exact same meter as Billy Joel's "Piano Man." Now you did too.

Back on Bsky and back on my bullshit!

For the past seven months or so, I've been comicsposting on Tumblr, but haven't really talked about it here. Now I'm posting my work onto a reputable platform where I can expand on my writings. Welcome to the Gutters, a year-by-year history of superhero comics!
An Introduction
I’ve been a comics fan for most of my life, although until recently I was never a regular comics reader. Mostly I would just hang around message boards full of people who were regular readers…

More longposts about comic books to distract myself from the horror that is existence!
Superboy: The Adventures Of What If Super Was Boy
Superboy #1, published in 1949, is a comic book series that started as a fantastic sitcom and turned into a thousand year space adventure and split the universe in two. One important aspect of golde…

Blog post I wrote up yesterday. I'm beginning an overview at Superboy before the Silver Age started, and how these comics were the stealth introduction to DC's Earth-One.
Superboy before the Silver Age
More Fun Comics #101, from 1945, is the first comic appearance of Superboy, and he didn't even make the cover. What happened to Dover and Clover? Bring them back for DC Rebirth. In '45, original Sup…

My thoughts about comics have grown too big for bsky to contain. I've ascended to the second best platform on the internet - tumblr.

Introduction: The Silver Age
Superman #76, published in 1952, is the "first" team-up of Superman and Batman. Why the quotes? Because Superman and Batman had already met through the Justice Society back in the Golden Age. Comic…

Comics Books Hot Take: Justice League Detroit was good, actually!

Sure the characters were b-listers, nobodies, and actual walking ethnic slurs; and a massive downgrade from the headliners of the DC universe; and Vibe is a walking punchline, but at least they were interesting!

Invented some absolutely cursed math gender last night. It haunts me so much I needed to share it. Even numbers are male, odd numbers are female. Single digit numbers are asexual, but two digit numbers are straight or gay pairings depending. 87 is straight, 42 is gay, 69, appropriately, is lesbians.

I'm getting a lot of good, timely, well-reasoned political discussions on this app and it's kinda bumming me out.

I find myself going back to the bird app to find the most piss-brained takes and it is like crack.

Where's the best place on bsky to load myself up with absolute fandom nonsense?

I recently read through the Black Suit era of Spider-Man, which didn't take very long because it lasted less than a year. Spider-Man first wore the black suit in ASM #252 (5/1984) and stopped wearing it in ASM #2 (11/1984). Counting other Spider-Man comics, it only appeared 22 times. 🧵

First off, fuck #NYT

Second, does anyone else feel like the Democrats are becoming controlled opposition? I can't be the only one but I don't think I've seen anyone else saying it. Maybe I'm just not looking right. But everything I've seen about their "opposition" feels like...

Random fact I learned last night. In modern English, and presumably, we stopped using the familiar "thee/thou" pronouns and only use the deferential "you". Tolkien, presumably, reflected this in Westron, the language he constructed that was then "translated" to English. 🧵
Westron
Westron (Adûni in itself) was the language of the Dúnedain of Middle-earth. By the end of the Third Age it was more or less a universal language spoken throughout...

One thing that surprised me about DC comics is how long its non-superhero comics lasted. One example, Marvel's longest-lasting war comic was "Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos", which Stan Lee created as a joke. This lasted until 1974. DC's Sgt. Rock series lasted until 1992. 🧵

I generally like Wonder Woman not being as overwhelmingly powerful as Superman for a lot of reasons, but mostly because then you get sick shit like this.

Hit em with the TRUTH KNUCKLES.

DC basically started the Aquaman damage control plan as soon as this fishy bastard escaped containment. Both of these versions of Aquaman were active at the same time. While he was on the Superfriends, Comic Aquaman was watching his infant son die. Absolute tonal whiplash.
