It's obvious but still striking to consider that we have a United States government driven solely by one man's emotional dysregulation and dysfunction.

I think it should probably be a bigger story that the president of the United States is a raving lunatic
Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast: "We hit 'em. And we want to hit 'em right, sir, and we want to hit them from the top! East, west, north, south. Sir, they won't know what the hell! And we'll knock them out. We did it politically correct. Five years."

Rep. Jonathan Jackson (D-IL). Jesse Jackson's son (!). trump likely not awake enough to know what he is saying, otherwise Rep. Jackson would be under investigation by noon.
wow -- with Trump standing behind him, a man (not sure who he is) offers this prayer: "We pray that he would be mindful of the poor and that he would be invested in the alleviation of suffering happening in the families preparing to bury their loved ones in Minneapolis."

important thread.
"we will not understand what we’ve lost until it’s gone. . ."
Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

I'm not sure "opt out" is the most appropriate way to describe people who had no choice but to drop healthcare coverage due to their premium skyrocketing.

FORCED out is a better term.
Tens of thousands of Missourians and Kansans opted out out of the Affordable Care Act marketplace altogether after the enhanced subsidies expired.

Pirro: "You bring a gun into the District, you mark my words, you're going to jail. I don't care if you have a license in another district and I don't care if you're a law abiding law owner somewhere else. You bring a gun into this District, count on going to jail. And that makes all the difference"

afraid of hurricanes, floods, fires, tornados, ice storms? FEMA will not be there for you. so sad states (and their taxpayer/citizens) aren't ready.
States like Mississippi—slammed by a deadly, multiday winter storm that left hundreds of thousands of people without power in bitter cold—are looking to a slimmed-down Federal Emergency Management Agency for support.

States Reeling From Winter Storm Encounter a Smaller FEMA
The Trump administration was quick to mobilize initial aid, but it’s not clear how a shrunken agency will handle the long-term recovery costs.
