Eek! I did it! I submitted a short story to a competition 🙈

Onwards to the next one!

The characters in my novel:

1. A paramedic who tries to save everyone.
2. A spouse at the end of their tether.
3. A crew mate with older sibling vibes.
4. A best friend who knows death is inevitable.
5. And Death, the force that brings this group of people all together.

Any guesses on who’s who?

Call me complex, but I love reading this kind of feedback on my novel.

A story that evokes such a strong sense of feeling is always the goal, right?

I went down the beta reader feedback rabbit hole and survived! Actually, it’s been an incredibly enlightening process. Now I just have to figure out how to edit-slash-rewrite this novel with those comments in mind!

Been a bit slow on the writing front of late. So, I'm moving some old pieces from Medium over to Substack. Here's one of those...

I finally wrote a thing! Started on a bit of a whim a few weeks ago, finished in a jet lagged haze just now... here's the story of how we ended up moving to Canada.

I haven’t felt much like writing in the last few months. Health stuff. Work stuff. Home stuff. It’s all taken centre stage. Buuuuut the tingle is back. Now I just need to start. How do you get going again after a no writing period?

Thank you to you and Michal for the opportunity to chat about our experiences of moving from the UK to Canada!
What if Brexit changed your whole life?

Today on Relocurious, Sarah and Stu share how shock led to a bold leap to British Columbia. It's a story of guts, grit, and unexpected humour.

Not all change starts with a plan. Sometimes we leap, then figure it out.

Popped another old piece over onto Substack today. This one was a kind of fun piece about what it's really like to be a paramedic... sarahwayte.substack.com/p/5-universa...
5 Universal Truths About Being a Paramedic
A (mostly) lighthearted look at what being a paramedic is really all about.

And just like that... it's gone.

The novel is finally out with the beta readers. Time to pause thinking about that story for now and start dabbling with the next one!

Seems legit.
What exactly does a copywriter do?

Well, this morning I spent 25 minutes thinking about the word “and” then I thought about the word “or” then I wrote a sentence that didn’t contain either word.

I used to painfully push through reading every book I’d started, even when I wasn’t enjoying it. And then I realised I didn’t have to do that. I could just stop and move on to the next one.

Life’s too damn short to be stuck reading a book you hate. I’m so much happier for it!

Oh look, I’m as active on here as I ever was on the blue bird site.

But after the JT tribute’s announcement yesterday, thinking I’ll be hanging out here a lot more!

‘Whelmed’ really means ‘capsized’ - the over and under were added later for effect. But you can be consolate: consoled and comforted. And gruntled too.
I can be overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but I can’t be whelmed.

Or, at least, I think theoretically I could but the way I have set up my life seems to have made it very difficult.

I would love to spend more of my life whelmed. Someone whelm me.
