North Yorkshire Council: all voices should be heard
North Yorkshire’s local authority currently has one party making all the big decisions. Would democracy be served better by a modern committee system?

Well said @midlandmax.bsky.social
cuts to welfare will only increase inequality
Can the government please explain how you can be “working with” people with disabilities, and also arrive at cutting support to them by £5 billion?

Again the government shows that marginalised communities are an easier target than taxing the super wealthy.
Why is impoverishing young and disabled people to the tune of £5 billion a higher priority for the Government than introducing a wealth tax? 👇

The Big Bethany Sleep Out 2025
I love the streets of Edinburgh but I hate the fact that 103 people were sleeping rough on them in December of last year, according to Simon Community Scotland. That’s in addition to the 20,823 homele

This is the Platonic ideal of the kind of statement we need from opposition party leaders right now. It's not a leftist speech; it's not lawyerly speech. It's a *political* speech by a *mainstream* elected representative that speaks in exactly the right register to the moment.
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy on Mahmoud Khalil.

I know you're all desperate to get home and read the books you've bought to celebrate World Book Day, so consider this official permission to leave work early.

And if you haven't yet got a book, don't worry, there's still time! Just pop into your nearest indie bookshop on the way!

1/ Yesterday, the Boundary Commission published their final report for Solihull MBC.

Confirmed in this is that the Scott Road, Richmond Road area north of the Grand Union Canal will be remaining as part of Olton, something that I feel was the only correct decision that could have been made.
