Just spotted this sign in Stoke Gifford, S Glos.

Yet more evidence for my argument that I've successfully moved the Welsh border

Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard showing Swansea University from the air

The card looks to be from the 1950s - you can still see the tram and railway lines along the seafront to the bottom right

If you like this card, please share it - remember, BlueSky has #NoAlgorithm

Small note on Welsh coal history since it's in the news. Welsh coal was in decline from around 1920 rather than 1979. In 1921, 271k men worked in Welsh coal. By 1980 there were just 28k employed in (deep) coal in Wales. Thatcherism effectively killed the industry but it had been dying for decades.

There hasn't been a paper on Vernon Watkins at #AWWE this year, but Dylan Thomas hasn't had many mentions, but it feels like the Manics have definitely embraced Welsh Writing in English.... Pity the that the CREW gang were all at Gregynog rather than Swansea this weekend.

Every now again it’s useful to repeat advice about accessing papers that are behind a paywall that excludes you. Email the author. My estimate is that 90% of academics are so thrilled that a living, breathing, possibly even reading, person shows interest that they will swiftly send you a copy.

Please. Not more mythologising about Owain Glyndwr.

There are so many more interesting, relevant, Welsh stories to explore.

And y'know, women's narratives too.

I was lucky enough to study The Waste Land for A Level. Absolutely loved it, and spending weeks studying it gave me a huge advantage in my undergrad.

US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?
