Here's a little bit of news.

We can now ship to the Republic of Ireland again!

We've done a couple of tests over the last few months, and because books are 0% VAT there, we can send with minimal disruption.

Tell your (Irish) friends!

What a book, what a writer. Having adored About A son I knew I would love this too. 200 pages of such eloquent thoughtful prose. What starts with trying to find out what has happened to a woman missing for the last 13 years becomes so much more. A study in love and loss and dealing with grief.

When I read The Salt Path a couple of years ago I never bought the backstory and seemed to be one of the few at the time that didn’t love the book. A great piece of journalism.

Duolingo is now an utter shit show if you are on the free version. hearts replaced with energy that runs out regardless of whether you get answers right or not. Dutch course so short that is not vaguely worth the subscription.

The most wonderful emotional book I have read in quite some time. A story of aging, and coming to terms with it. A must read.

Have always loved @barristersecret.bsky.social on social, as well as their non fiction writing, so have very much enjoyed this first foray into fiction which is published in August this year! A murder trial narrated by two of the co-defendants, the prosecutor, one defence barrister and the judge. 👏🏻

2006 - 2020 were my #WHSmith years - the longest I worked for any company. So very very many good things in those 14 years - not least for the people I met and worked with along the way, many of whom have become life-long friends.

What an extraordinary, heartbreaking, necessary show Adolescence is. The direction and choreography to coordinate these one take episodes is something else, as are the performances.

Generally have been very slow in the reading front recently as I’ve just started done series called The Emery’s Wing. Apparently a few people might have heard of it….
Yes I am extremely embarrassingly late to the party on this one. Did I ever mention my degree was in politics? 😬😬

Loved the new Laura Shepherd Robinson novel which is coming out in July. A wonderful cat and mouse mystery set in Georgian London. Great characters and I’m obsessed with the luxury confectionery shop this is set in.

Time for a bit of reality - a thread.

Sales in the shop are doing well, but we're reliant on sales on the website to help pay the bills.

The website is reliant on social media, particularly twitter.

Since September, we've seen a big decline in people seeing our tweets.

Loved this wonderful short ( 160 pages) novel by Andre Aciman. First of his I’d read but won’t be the last. A chance meeting between two 60 year olds at jury selection leads to a whirlwind flirtation and contemplation of a potential future together despite both being married.
