If you're feeling down (a bit of an understatement considering the binfire that is the world,) and you haven't yet read Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld, it's currently 99p for Kindle. amzn.to/4tbiXS8

Last day to get these 99p Kindle bargains. (Though pickings very slim this month.)
I will not rest until I've forced everyone who comes even near my orbit to read The Wedding People by Alison Espach. Happily, it's currently 99p for Kindle. amzn.to/3N5BmiP

I Substacked about Georgette Heyer for Bridgerton weekend (of which she would not approve) open.substack.com/pub/sarraman...
The books that made me: The Collected Novels of Georgette Heyer
As you hunker down to watch the new season of Bridgeton, give thanks to Georgette Heyer, the woman who invented the Regency romance. And don't Jane Austen at me!

I have reached that stage in a line edit where words have ceased to have any real meaning. Even struggling with the single syllable ones.

I’m no Nigella but I’m a competent home cook who makes pretty much every evening meal from scratch. But for the last week, I’ve had at least one mishap per meal. Is mercury retrograding or something?

Some cheer-uppy books on the day that we most need them. My Substack is free but if love it if you’d consider subscribing. sarramanning.substack.com/p/are-you-sc...
Are you scared to get happy? Funny books to banish the Blue Mondays.
And let’s also swerve the Sombre Tuesdays, Humpy Wednesdays, Tired Thursdays…

I keep a shower cap in a kitchen drawer to put on when cooking so that my hair doesn’t smell of meat. I have the shower cap on now except it’s Sunday which means I have to take the bins out. You can see where I’m going with this. Of course I bumped into a neighbour. Of course I did.

I have a cake in the oven* because January is not the month to give up cake. January is the month to fully embrace cake.

(*Not a euphemism.)

Paid my tax bill then bought myself a “push” present for a book even though I’ve yet to sign/receive the contract. I guess this year is about balance and a certain amount of recklessness.

Dinner time? Again? I’ve reached that stage of gluttony where even I’m tapped out and all I really want is some cheese on toast.

Another dinner of some hot, some cold, leftovers and bits that would have been leftovers if I’d had room in the oven for them and twenty people had come for dinner on Christmas Day. I’ve entirely forgotten what a balanced meal even is.
