I talk about culture and representation. I am also fat, which shapes how I see the world and how it sees me. I am also a cisgender, bisexual, queer, neurodivergent, Egyptian/Scottish/Canadian cis woman https://youtube.com/@Sara_TheFatCultureCritic
Amazing thread. I would add that if seeing a disabled person feels uncomfortable that’s something worth interrogating.

We all have unconscious biases, that’s part of existing in the systems we have. What matters is what we do when we become conscious of them.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

We need to talk about the fact that the Christian Right believes it's their responsibility to bring about the apocalypse. That this absolute collapse of truth and justice isn't just incompetence, it's what they want, it's why they think Trump was sent by God. Yes, really. 1/4

Listen to Aranock
A lot of people are willing to jump through a lot of hoops to ignore that abuse is a result of power and not an anomaly or the result of a special class of evil people. To get to those positions people required exploitation, why are you shocked that once they have more power they continue to abuse.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Episode 5 of Starfleet Academy floored me. I think last week is still my favourite but so close. This was a beautiful tribute to two of Trek’s best characters.

Plus Jay-den attempts to flirt

“Not everyone in the files is a pedophile”

Yes some of them are pedophile enablers, you get how that’s just as bad right?

No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life is only the core of their actual existence.

What a day, just being with friends thinking about our friend Oddy and his deep kindness. He had a kind of great dane energy.

My beloved friend Oddnon died on Wednesday. I always called him “Habibi” which means “one who is beloved”. He was one of the most loving and lovable humans I have ever met.
He had a chuckle that came from his whole soul.

He was also disabled, gender queer and chronically ill. His life mattered

I really love Starfleet Academy’s treatment of the Klingon culture. It’s reminiscent of the way culture isn’t linear but moves in spirals. Jay-den sees myths and language where Worf saw facts and fundamentals.

Ideas iterate and evolve while retaining the same shape. Very thoughtful world building

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

The simple truth is that the ballot box is neither the beginning nor the end of the process of change. It’s only one piece.

Anyone with any sense could see that’s what Jessie meant
Deleted this post because people just love to assume I meant "don't vote, be apathetic, and don't do anything" and just wanted to pile on because nothing gets the juices going more than telling a trans woman on the internet that she's wrong because of something you assumed she meant.
