Amazing thread. I would add that if seeing a disabled person feels uncomfortable that’s something worth interrogating.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

Perhaps, but it’s worth remembering that what we see is only a fraction of the discussions actually happening and usually it’s the bits that are most algorithm friendly.

A lot of people are willing to jump through a lot of hoops to ignore that abuse is a result of power and not an anomaly or the result of a special class of evil people. To get to those positions people required exploitation, why are you shocked that once they have more power they continue to abuse.
