I talk about culture and representation. I am also fat, which shapes how I see the world and how it sees me. I am also a cisgender, bisexual, queer, neurodivergent, Egyptian/Scottish/Canadian cis woman https://youtube.com/@Sara_TheFatCultureCritic
If I had a nickel for every bisexual jock using a cocky asshole persona to hide insecurity and parental issues who is clearly down bad for an awkward nerdy boy. I would have two nickels, but they’d be very pretty ones. #StarfleetAcademy #HeatedRivalrt

I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is

I’d rather be fat than a fascist. It’s important to remember that only one of those things is actually shameful

Just as William Ware Theiss would have wanted.

I mean there is the famous Vera vs Jessie drama.

Amazing thread. I would add that if seeing a disabled person feels uncomfortable that’s something worth interrogating.

We all have unconscious biases, that’s part of existing in the systems we have. What matters is what we do when we become conscious of them.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

All we know is there was no literal return recorded in history. There’s still plenty of room for interpretation in the margins. There are nonlinear godlike aliens involved folks, get creative with your headcanon

On paper the idea of revisiting Sisko shouldn’t work, but give it a look and see what you think

Amazing what happens when people get the support they need

Considering the state of things it’s no wonder you’re exhausted and overwhelmed. And you’re continuing to create, that matters.

We need to talk about the fact that the Christian Right believes it's their responsibility to bring about the apocalypse. That this absolute collapse of truth and justice isn't just incompetence, it's what they want, it's why they think Trump was sent by God. Yes, really. 1/4

Yes I loved the episode, but that element felt a bit off.

You’re doing important work under really difficult circumstances and have kept both your integrity and your humour. That’s a lot

Perhaps, but it’s worth remembering that what we see is only a fraction of the discussions actually happening and usually it’s the bits that are most algorithm friendly.

It’s obviously been made with care, it deserves to be critiqued with respect.

Listen to Aranock
A lot of people are willing to jump through a lot of hoops to ignore that abuse is a result of power and not an anomaly or the result of a special class of evil people. To get to those positions people required exploitation, why are you shocked that once they have more power they continue to abuse.

A Klingon would scoff at a such a petty concern as to whether their leg coverings were singular or bifurcated. What a silly P'takh to be disturbed by such a thing.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Episode 5 of Starfleet Academy floored me. I think last week is still my favourite but so close. This was a beautiful tribute to two of Trek’s best characters.

Plus Jay-den attempts to flirt
