Breaking News: The two federal agents who opened fire on Alex Pretti, a Veterans Affairs nurse, in Minneapolis on Saturday have been placed on leave, a U.S. official said. The move came as more Republican leaders broke with the White House’s handling of the shooting. nyti.ms/4bXJtIu

Trump said he’d pressure health insurers to lower drug prices.

More than a month later, no meeting has taken place and he has not made any demands.
Health insurers dodge Trump's pricing crackdown, for now
While the president's ire can return on a whim, the prospect of an Oval Office dressing down appears, for the moment, off the table.

@gallego.senate.gov Defunding ICE/CBP is not negotiable! You have a duty to protect your constituents from the lawlessness of this agency, and firing Stephen Miller is not enough! Stop funding now!

@indivisible.org @governorwalz.mn.gov It would be a fitting tribute to order flags at half staff to honor Renee Good & Alex Pretti. Their example of standing up for their community in the face of cruelty was heroic.
Despite constant teargassing, brutal detentions, and the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, Minnesotans have stood up against Trump's invasion of their state in remarkable numbers and with tremendous courage.

@amyklobuchar.com @governorwalz.mn.gov Order the flags at half mast for Good & Pretti.
Micayla Pretti with moving words about her older brother Alex Pretti. “Alex was kind, generous, and had a way of lighting up every room he walked into. He was incredibly intelligent and deeply passionate, and he made people feel safe. But most importantly, he was my brother."

Simple! Stop funding them and they’ll have to get out. @schumer.senate.gov @senatedemocrats.bsky.social @housedemocrats.bsky.social
Alex Pretti did not deserve to die.
Renee Nicole Good did not deserve to die.
Enough is enough.
ALL of ICE out of Minnesota now.

Trump claims that DHS/ICE/CBP is only going after the worst. Yet federal agents were targeting Jose Huerta-Chuma before they killed Alex Pretti. Huerta-Chuma has never been in MN custody, has no felony allegations & only traffic offenses from decades ago. @democrats.senate.gov @durbin.senate.gov

Absolutely! There can be no doubt left now what DHS/ICE will do with more funding. It is up to @democrats.senate.gov to stand up for the rule of law.
“I hear the anger from my constituents and I take responsibility for that.”

The killing of Alex Pretti was the predictable, tragic outcome of allowing a violent, unaccountable secret police force to operate in our communities and then continuing to fund it. We need leaders who will stand up for us.
Tom Suozzi, one of the 7 House Dems who voted for the DHS bill: "I failed to view the DHS funding vote as a referendum on the illegal and immoral conduct of ICE in Minneapolis... I have long been critical of ICE’s unlawful behavior and I must do a better job demonstrating that."
January 26, 2026 at 6:17 PM
We'll never know if the seven @democrats.senate.gov who voted for continuation of DHS/ICE funding last time could have prevented the death of Alex Pretti. What we do know is what DHS/ICE will do with continued funding. @durbin.senate.gov & Congress have the power to stop this lawlessness now.
January 26, 2026 at 5:28 PM
@durbin.senate.gov Immigration enforcement does not require militarized tactics, intimidation of communities, suppression of lawful protest, or the murder of civilians. This is a dangerous abuse of power and a complete lack of accountability. @democrats.senate.gov can stop this madness! DEFUND ICE!

Either free speech is protected for everyone - and we all agree on that and defend it - or we don't have free speech at all. No carve outs for federal agents to execute civilians engaged in the constitutionally protected right to protest, and then to label them as terrorists. @democrats.senate.gov
Walz: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal government that can kill, injure, menace and kidnap its citizens off the streets or on the side of a nurse at the V.A. who died bearing witness to such government
