People keep saying things like “what asylum is supposed to be for” but don’t cite more than vibes.
In fact, one of the things the UN Refugee Convention aimed to stop was what happened to the MS St. Louis, the ship filled with Jews that was turned away in 1939 from Cuba, then the US, then Canada.

But do you understand that "coming here because they have a connection here" is getting further and further away from "fleeing a threat", which is what asylum is supposed to be for? It's not a family reunion immigration program.
