don't be fooled by previous spikes. this is significant. it is reversing a one-year downward trend, a dynamic that is really hard to change, and apart from the initial invite-only stage, there has only been a single other four-week growth streak in weekly posting users

Whoa! Mind blown: the s/ORIG/NEW/ syntax predates Unix:
actually that editing syntax predates computers by more than a century: it's traditional copyeditor markup!

someone from npm needs to write a check to bjorn and merge his userscript into main
Some new stuff for my npm userscript. github.com/bluwy/npm-us...

Better versions tab, show vulnerability info, new package labels (esm, cjs, module replacements, has postinstall, etc), better settings menu, and more.

Only reasonable explanation for why Apple would release something so obviously broken as Liquid Glass.
I think there is exactly one reason why Apple introduced liquid glass, and I don't think most people are aware of it.

I like this setting for VS Code from Ben Frain. JUST show the vertical line for the current indentation, not all of them

```
"workbench.colorCustomizations": {
"editorIndentGuide.background1": "#00000001",
"editorIndentGuide.activeBackground1": "#ff9900"
}
```

Hot take 1: Software devs who complain about LMMs now writing the coding for them, are the kind of people who never wanted to think about the end-product or their users. They are the kind of people who think writing code is the point of their job.

Hot take 2: It never was about the code.

Imagine you have a computer that judders and stutters pretty regularly. Now imagine you could either:

A: Make it twice as fast at finishing tasks
B: Make it run smoothly

Which would you choose? What factor of speedup at finishing tasks would change your answer?

Guys I'm not making this up...I asked Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok what frontend framework they would pick if they only could pick the one they would enjoy writing more.

They ALL said Svelte 🧡

Do your LLM a favor, switch to Svelte 🧡

Dev tip of the day:

❌ Don't:
npm run dev

✅ Do:
node --run dev

Why?
Because npm run has to phone home before it actually runs your script 🤯 It adds 100+ ms latency and is incredibly insane for privacy.

Sticking my hand in the wasp nest. But truly, they are useful.
At the risk of starting the flame war to end all flame wars...

Modern LLMs (GPT-5.1, Claude 4.5, Gemini 3) produce excellent code and can be a significant productivity boost to software engineers who take the time to learn how to effectively apply them - especially if used with coding agent tools

npm post-install is like calling Cthulhu
I think the npm client should probably follow pnpm in making post-install scripts be opt-in and recording that decision in package-lock, so if a package that was previously inert suddenly has a post-install script, it wouldn't execute.
