Your comment got me thinking...

*We are the victims of the choices of our elders, including and perhaps especially, the dead ones.*

Granted, I was writing about fictional people, but I still thought it was apt.

And I appreciated the Billy Joel reference :)

I was exploring the meta-narrative implications of my fiction and realized an unintentional, yet poignantly accurate parallel with reality.

A society that does not understand the true, mechanical nature of its own life-support system is doomed to destroy it through ignorance and hubris.

They say that race of elves went extinct because they all eventually blinded one another during intimate moments.

I joined Team Elves 🧝 for the #WorldbuildingShowdown on

Regardless, you're still invited to see:

Ads like this make me giggle in a very sad sort of way. I think, are we teaching (not just) kids that this kind of proportion is "realistic" in any way other than a Tightest Corset Convention?

I feel like this could be a companion article to my own. Radnor's article explores a lot of the same subjects I do in my recent post about "The Way It's Always Been." His takes a more human, psychological approach, instead of my more systemic/societal one.

THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO FEAR
While this revelation – the fear of the new – felt like a bummer the good news is that the antidote is clear and always available.

Love it! Exactly right.
You guys can call these pissing contests "debates", but you can't "debate" a cultist who lives in an entirely different plane of reality.

Instead, push them on how they determine what's true and factual. The correct answer is always - EVIDENCE.

I started a podcast. It's called "Listen to a Raven Speak."

In our first flight, we're tackling an easy topic: why humanity's nostalgia obsession might be the root of all our problems.

I wrote an essay titled "Why We Should Want Our AI to Break the Rules." It makes the most sense to read together, but individual parts make their own points, too.

The Supreme Court just greenlit Donald Trump gutting nearly $800 MILLION for medical treatments and cures.

Congress approved this funding for a reason: it saves lives.

This is disgraceful, and families will suffer.

I wrote an essay titled Why We Should Want Our AI to Break the Rules, partly responding to a question of a comment. It makes the most sense to read it together, but individual parts make their own points. You need all the points to understand my conclusions.

If we teach AI to be like humans, why would we expect it to have different values than humans?

What I think is missing is a radical shift in ethics, not just for AI, but toward a model which can be shared with humans, rather than human dictated rules. Give it *ideal* ethics and we follow it, too!

The playbook of demagogues like Trump is to protect the Oligarchs by dividing us up based on race, religion, place of birth or sexual orientation.

They want us to hate each other while they laugh all the way to the bank.

Don’t fall for it.

A good thread that addresses an opinion I’ve has for a while: that writing and publishing are fundamentally two different games.
There's a panel about how to write novels that "take years to complete" and I winced, because I can remember a time when that was actually a normal and expected amount of time in which to complete a book. Now it's all... Why aren't you writing six books a year???
