This puts the value of a car parking space at over £75,000 – a sum that makes the £100 per annum permit to occupy it seem not only cheap, but overly subsidised.

The reason why cyclists and pedestrians push back against these types of campaigns is not because we think visibility is bad (I wear hig-viz!), but because it's victim blaming that diverts attention from the real issues: dangerous drivers and poor infrastructure

More good news today, if you can believe it!
The picture in the thumbnail below is one of the multi-million £ public realm improvements which Lutfur Rahman wanted to rip out to turn this street back into a traffic sewer.
Utterly unhinged stuff, much schadenfraude at his ignominious defeat today 🥳

What is so noticeable here as well is the extraordinary lengths which have gone to to prevent drivers attempting to get on to the bridge. I’ve never seen this in #NL on any bridge I’ve crossed. Perhaps @cyclingmikey.bsky.social @bicycledutch.bsky.social could confirm or not. It’s just awful.
Crossed Hammersmith bridge on my bike earlier & honestly only sociopaths who live nowhere near here would think it’s a good idea to bring 25k cars back over this bridge every day

Sound on for a rant about the Putney politicians demanding exactly this based on convenient lies & political cowardice

As Dutch cities continue to grow, space is being reallocated to walking, cycling and public transport. Across the Netherlands, the role of the private car is being reconsidered. New blog post and video.
When Space Runs Out: Rethinking the Role of the Car in Dutch Cities
Dutch cities are changing rapidly. One of the aims of this blog is to document that change, and there is plenty of work ahead. Much of what I record involves changes to streets: a before-and-after of a reconstructed street is relatively easy to capture in images. Shiny new cycling bridges can steal the show, and a new continuous-cycle route perhaps even more so.

I just love these ‘ecoducts’ in #NL built to enable animals to cross major roads. Imagine. And we saw them from amazing #cyclelanes joining Amersfoort to Utrecht. @activetravelcaf.bsky.social @activetraveleng.bsky.social @cyclinguk.bsky.social @lauralaker.bsky.social we can only dream.

Well 2025 was a brilliant year for #cycling. I completed 10051 miles by last night. A record + not bad at 72! Obv the safest miles were in #NL but still some gt quiet bits in the UK esp Derbyshire. But to enable more women like me to choose to #cycle it needs proper funding. A few sunsets seen.
