For no reason at all, I'm thinking about The Imperial Presidency, historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr.'s 1973 book. He traced how the expansion of presidential powers, from the Constitutional Convention to Nixon, created a Constitutional imbalance. He was most concerned with the power to make war.
