I've realized that some old habits I left in Iraq have started to resurface while out in Minneapolis. Constant scanning for threats. Checking rooftops. Suspicion of random piles of trash. Hyper alertness. I'm entering into danger alert mode. I hate it.

Kansas just passed a monstrous bill enabling criminal penalties and vigilante lawsuits for trans people using the bathroom according to their gender identity and requires them to surrender their current drivers licenses and birth certificates if it does not match their sex assigned at birth.

I found that, after Iraq, I became MORE empathetic rather than less. I didn't let the horrors take that from me, I instead tried ever harder to lift others up.

My recommendation for inspiration is Wikipedia. I usually start with species and explore the articles to find interesting facts that spark ideas. I just helped someone create a Northern Short Tailed Shrew for example.
