This is *extremely* weak leadership from Jeffries and Schumer. When the wannabe king ignores congress to initiate regime change abroad, they are requesting a fucking briefing sometime soon.

Mayor Mamdani has nullified every executive order issued by Eric Adams after he struck his corrupt bargain with Trump to secure dismissal of the indictment against him.

i was just thinking about this. when a fascist squeaks by, it’s a mandate. when a progressive wins by a landslide, he needs to be deferential. it’s such bullshit.
as a texan i'll spare people zohran takes but one thing i think we're going to see even more of now that he's mayor is mainstream media shift the goal posts of what having a mandate is. trump had a mandate when he narrowly won but zohran has to reach out to all these factions no matter what

Kamar Samuels to be superintendent of New York City public schools is outstanding news for those who still care about school integration and equality. In the face of the national attacks on civil rights and dismantling of enforcement at the U.S. DOE this pick by Mamdani sends a powerful message.
Mamdani to name Kamar Samuels as schools chancellor

"Desperate for the consumption of revolution" is spot on and it's created a huge uphill climb for genuine organizing in the US.

Lots of blame to go around including US education that glorifies heroes over movements and single events over complex stories (if resistance stories are taught at all).
It’s novelty music and it’s mediocre even at that. The man ain’t even Weird Al.

The thing is, a lot of people are desperate for the consumption of revolution — the beads, a wicked new album, a chant — without actual revolution. but you can’t manufacture that from pure consumption like this.

This piece doesn't make any attempt to puncture Weiss's self-promotion as some sort of truth teller, but there was one quote that I felt broke through the aggrandizement:

"The unifying ideology of the Free Press is that it's all things a rich person would agree with."
Bari Weiss’s move to L.A. was essential to her reinvention. If New Yorkers had cast her out under a hail of jeers, Angelenos embraced Weiss for a variety of reasons, not least because, in this industry town, journalists are exotic animals.

Her exile in Hollywood paved the way for a triumphant return to New York.

Stranger Things hasn’t been good for a few seasons now but I’ve made it this far I have to see it through.

I think one thing that could’ve redeemed this final season was more of a sense of humor, poking fun at itself, but we got self seriousness instead.

I loved reading the range of ideas NYers have for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social. Here are a few of my own based on what I've seen as a restorative practices coach and math coach the last 4 years:
1. Address teacher burnout as a crisis. Provide teachers an additional paid prep period per day.
