If they can drive people out of rural spaces, or make them so desperate that they’ll accept any job at any pay rate, they can bring in large corporate farms and there is no one to protest the environmental impacts or force them to pay their fair share in taxes.

One of my bigger worries is that the younger generations will have to learn the bitter lessons taught to those who were politically conscious between 1910 and 1945, when much of the world was at its worst.

As a native left coaster I taught at SEMO in Cape 2004-2008. Had to drive the 100 miles up STL on a regular basis. Good to know this is finally happening. For me, leaving Rush Limbaugh's hometown was the Great X-Cape. MO power to you who remain to fight for Blue & cause good trouble!

Yeah, smokes were 55 cents a pack at the local gas station. I started the summer after seventh grade ('69?) and managed to quit in about '85. I was a pack-and-a-half man, and that kind of habit would break the bank today.
