Elementary school librarian. Wife, mom, grandma. Blue dot in Oklahoma. Currently raising kittens.
I feel there should be some achievement level you unlock when you can read Make Way for Ducklings to a class, and the teacher brings the newly-hatched classroom ducklings to the library for observation time. We talked about inherited vs. learned traits, too. #TLSky #MakeWayforDucklings

Went into a bakery and had a former student recognize me today as her elementary school librarian! She said I looked familiar but when she heard my voice she knew it was me. I’m just amazed. It’s been at least 15 years. This is one of the joys of being a #schoollibrarian. #SchoolLibraries #TLSky

Have you heard of Trump’s “Hiring Freeze”? A friend’s husband was laid off from his government job a few weeks ago so he’s been applying for others. He got 11 (!!) emails of this type today. 😡😢

I’m on Winter Break, so of course I come down with a cold. I’m sure I’ll feel better by Monday when I go back to school. #notCovidFluorRSV

Dear Bluesky,
Please tell men that this is not a dating app. Nowhere in my bio do I say I’m “looking for a relationship.” I’m muting and blocking and not following back.
Thank you,
64yo woman librarian

In other duties as assigned, my assistant and I helped with Santa pictures in the library today. We took in over $1500 for cancer research. This was our first year with a Black Santa and he was awesome. Hearing the kids talk as they realized Santa was Black was priceless. #SchoolLibraries

When a kid jumps up and down with excitement because we have the next book in a series they love or recognize themselves in a book and excitedly says, “that kid looks like me!,” I’m reminded of why our work is important and necessary for kids.

I’m always amazed at people who don’t understand this. Librarians are responsible for curating collections for the entire community, not one parent or set of parents who want the collection to be just for them.
Parents are in control of which books their own children read - if you don't like one of the thousands they have that are on the shelves of our public libraries, put it back and choose another! Pretty simple concept. #FreedomtoRead #RighttoRead

One thing I'm still learning (and need to remind myself of often) is this: b/c the Bluesky algorithm isn't capitalism focused, engagement here doesn't work the same way it does in other spaces. We must actually REPOST content to boost it. Likes are lovely, but don't affect visibility. #tlsky #edusky

The story of Thanksgiving is just that. A story.
Everyone knows by now that what they taught us in school about Thanksgiving was bullshit, right? A lie, because the truth was so horrific we’d question EVERYTHING about the founding of this country.

Book banning is real now, but whitewashing history was always real.

Honest question: I’m in a school librarian starter pack (yay!) but I’m getting some followers I don’t want to follow back. I have muted them, but should I block them? No posts, no replies, no intro, no pic, or they hit me as creepy. They still show up in the follow back queue.

Would it be too horrible if the hubs and I skipped the whole thanksgiving holiday this year? It’s just the two of us and we have birthday and anniversary this week to celebrate. Besides, we have pie. I’d love a year off from cooking.

Library dog-in-training? She visited the library and 2 PE classes this morning and did great! So calm and happy to see the kids. The principal even approved her for a library dog position. 😊🐩 #SchoolLibraries

Do any of you have library dogs? My library assistant just got a standard poodle puppy. If the pup has the right disposition, I’d love to have my assistant bring her to our K-5 library some days when she’s older. Our principal & 1 teacher bring their (well-trained) dogs to school. #SchoolLibraries

When my 12yo twins started reading less because of middle school vibes I installed the Libby app on their phones, connected it to all three NYC library systems, and bought them a subscription to Shonen Jump.

They have since read hundreds of manga—HUNDREDS.

Place books wherever they are.

We’ve had a “tornado watch day.” Second one this fall. Heavy rain and winds right at the school start times. 10yo granddaughter has her Chromebook and got her work done. Now she’s reading Restart, by Gordon Korman, on it for her ELA class.
