✍️Working in perpetuity on a novel
For some reason, I’ve been waiting until I have 5 hours to read a 10-hour book I checked out from the library, then have to put it on hold (AGAIN) so I can finish it six weeks after I started it. What’s worse is I have a goldfish brain, so I can’t remember what I read and have to start over…🩸📚💙

The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica
Rating: 🪦🪦🪦🪦🪦

I was obsessed with Tender is the Flesh, so of course I had to pick this one up the nanosecond I saw it on the shelf.

It feels too short! I would have loved to hear more about this post-climate disaster world and “religion”.

If 2025 was a restaurant, the chairs would be super uncomfortable, the parking situation would be a disaster, and the menu would be totally different than the one that was posted on their website

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

I don’t think we participated for nothing. If that were the case it’d be blasted all over the news that it failed. Instead, the silence says it all. They don’t want to let people know it worked in the hopes we’ll be discouraged and won’t try it again… #economicblackout
Not a single peep on the economic blackout yesterday. Did I participate for nothing?

You know when you’re just sitting there minding your own business and you get like a full-body shiver out of nowhere? That’s a demon jumping in to possess you and then jumping right back out after he’s had a quick look around like nooooope

Just finished my reread of Fluent Forever by Gabriel Weber after making “Learn a New Language” a goal for 2025. Now the hard part - choosing what I want to learn first!

One of my favorite audiobook narrations of all time is Mary by Nat Cassidy! While Susan Bennett really brought this book to life with all the characters, her Aunt Nadine is 👩‍🍳💋…

Just finished “A Passionate Mind in Relentless Pursuit” and really enjoyed Noliwe Rooks’ insights as they related to Bethune’s life and pursuit of liberation. It’s a fantastic (and quick) read that will leave you wanting to research more about her efforts and general history! #booksky 💙📚 #nonfiction

I needed to see this at this exact moment in time. Framing the power of reading as a way to “refocus and lock in” instead of feeling like it is a distraction that keeps you from being able to achieve things big or small.

I think one of my favorite lines from the article is “…there is also such a thing as having enough information.“

We all know it’s awful, now what are we going to DO about it?
“You can discourse and quote-dunk and fact-check until you’re blue in the face…We don’t need any more irony-poisoned hot takes or cathartic, irreverent snark. We need to collectively decide what kind of world we actually do want, and what we’re willing to do to achieve it.”

I only completed one of the extra 500 books I started in January since my last reading update. I’ve read four books for the year so far 🥳

I like using multiple book tracking apps because I get to see subtly differences in how things are categorized. #booksky 💙📚

I went to reread Two Awesome Hours and was greeted by a note to myself…

I can’t remember why I felt bullied by this book, but I’m about to find out (again) 😂😅😬

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

You know when there’s only like 15 pages left in a book and nothing’s been solved and you get that weird closure anxiety like “okay there’s no way any of this is gonna be wrapped up in a way that makes any sense to me”…that’s what everything feels like all the time now
