At the excellent @jvetjournal.bsky.social 2025 conference in Oxford 🇬🇧, I had the opportunity to present ongoing work with my colleagues @leesawheelahan.bsky.social, Antti Seitamaa and Penni Pietila. We draw upon critical realist philosophy, further developing the concept of #reflexivity.

Hello @crnetwork.bsky.social, with @leesawheelahan.bsky.social we published an article in @bjse.bsky.social. We theorise the person envisaged in the global education policy discourse based on #skills and propose an alternative based on #CriticalRealism. It's open access. See, doi.org/10.1080/0142...

US authorities now demanding Helsinki University to remove words like "climate change" and "equal society" from a Fulbright scholarship call. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
"Amerikanska myndigheter har kontaktat universitetet och krävt att en del termer tas bort ur beskrivningar i stipendieannonser.
– Det handlar om ord som ”klimatförändringen”, ”jämlikt samhälle”, ”ett inkluderande samhälle” och ”kvinnor i samhället”, säger kansler Kaarle Hämeri."

What was desired with #inclusion when it was coined in the 1960s was to PROMOTE economic growth policies. Not DECLINE them, as the Trump administration does now. #DEI

The view that improving freedom of speech by forbidding words to be spoken is really something. It must go to history the greatest paradox of the bourgeois far-right populists ever #DEI #Fulbright #SocialJustice

In this article with Leesa Wheelahan, we use the critical realist concept of depth-ontology to examine personhood which is related to, but distinct from, human agency, social structure and the social context in which people practise their skills.

What I like most about this UK school of humanism is that it is based on realism, the philosophy of real people living in a real world and not a fantasy one.
'The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.'

Bertrand Russell, British Philosopher, humanist, and our former patron.
