TLDR: gendered patterns of political competition strongly shape success rates of women candidates. Sexism may lead to voter abstention in the US.

With our first child my husband and I took shared parental leave (SPL) in the UK - it was a great experience, but financially costly.

It shouldn't be that way in my view. So take the opportunity to share your experiences with SPL with the gov. here:
