It's the GRIEF. We haven't really come to terms with the grief of it and are in wide denial that no, really, the USA is dead. It's not "changing", it's buried. The institutions, the larger ideals, the systematic functioning of accountability. The decline was the last 30-40 years. This IS the end...

Rep. McIver ran to protect Rep. Coleman. "You're touching a federal official." People held on to protect each other. HSI swarmed & took Baraka.

One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss
Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

A tale of two movies:

Similar deal structures. Similar budgets.

One made $45M from 3300 screens, post pandemic, and won the weekend.

The other made $41M from 3600 screens pre-pandemic, and placed second.

And yet this is the coverage.

The anti-trans movement is welfare for losers.
What a summary of the anti-trans movement:

March 23rd: female fencer competes in mixed-gender event, beating several male competitors, finishing 8th

March 30th: same fencer films herself telling trans competitor “I am refusing to fence you, because I am a woman and you are a man,” collects $5000

It always boggles my mind that I, a journalist, am expressly forbidden from trading stocks, but members of Congress, with vastly greater knowledge of market-moving news, are allowed to profit by front-running markets, and so may profit by in essence stealing from the public they represent.

You know, I think the easiest way for AI to f**k with humans and really cause major emotional damage is to automatically turn on our MUTE buttons when we think they're on.

I've been wonderinf that too.
I still can’t figure out when “we can deport you” turned into “we can put you in a hell hole prison in a third country, indefinitely, with no legal recourse.”

Is this the snake eating itself?
This is big: House Republicans tucked language into the budget res “rule” that bans the House from voting to terminate Trump’s emergency declaration used to impose tariffs. TL;DR lawmakers who vote for this are officially giving up their power to revoke his tariffs until October.

Except it's not just one person. It's countless simping enablers behind him. A 5 year old could also tank everything if we gave him the power of the land.

.....though, tbh, I have more faith in a 5 yrar old GIRL. Full props to 5 year old girls.
tbh i didn't know one person could destroy the global economy

Trump isn’t listening to what the stock market is telling him. He’s not negotiating with foreign leaders in good faith. He’s not hearing what corporate CEOs are saying.

For better or worse, this is painfully true.
One way I’m understanding the Trump admin is that they’re jettisoning anything with even a whiff of small-l liberalism — global trade, higher education, basic science, the biotech industry. But what they don’t realize is that American power is rooted in liberalism. It is a liberal hegemon.
