On NPR on Friday, there was a story of a 4-year-old--an American citizen--who hasn't left her house since early December, not even to play in the yard. And her 8-year-old brother recently stopped going to school, too. Their father is undocumented, and the family doesn't want to risk him being taken.

Are you going to stand with Dr. King or are you going to stand with someone that wants to be a King?

Fairly sure it’s unintentional, but the end date on this mug being sold by the Smithsonian does make it sound a little like they’re saying America dies in 2026…

i think this MLK day the thing to focus on is the strategic focus and tactical brilliance of the civil rights movement and the way it was laser focused on a set of achievable goals

Bernice King: "Nationalism, extremism and imperialism are not waiting. Children pulled from rubble in Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Ukraine and Haiti are not waiting.

Human rights, norms being ignored or selectively applied are not waiting, so neither can we wait."

Non-violent does not mean non-existent. Be present. Be careful. Be human. Be nice. Not ICE.

one of many reminders you’ll get on MLK day that he was a radical. do not cherry-pick his quotes about love today, especially if you are white:

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life fighting for equity and justice. He taught us that even in the face of intimidation and discrimination, we must never stop working towards a better future – a lesson that feels especially relevant today.

Through nonviolent campaigns, he helped pave the way for the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
