Avid film watcher. Obsessed with 1970s Hollywood, and the Japanese New Wave. Enjoys feel-bad art across genres and mediums. ESL teacher in Asia for nine years. Writing a novel about life and film in Taipei. Leftist, interested in democracy preservation.
Roddy Doyle was an absolutely terrible choice to be the chair for The Booker. Flesh winning feels like the two white guys on the panel decided to go for the least literary, most masculine of the books.

Saw video of today's shooter and guessing he's 764 or similar group. They're purposefully ideologically incoherent & are accelerationist nihilists. Nothing in his manifesto or painted on his guns will make logical sense together. The media won't understand this.

This is as excited as I could possibly be about a blu-ray announcement. Dr. McKendry and Elric Kane are the two best people to do a commentary. The movie that I double featured Halloween '96 with Scream, and made Scream look mid by comparison. A fucking classic Carpenter film. Top three.
Do you read Sutter Cane?
just announced- @elrickane.bsky.social & I did the commentary track on the fancy new 4K release of In the Mouth of Madness, coming soon from @arrowvideo.bsky.social
Honored to talk about one of our favorite movies!

I feel seen.
The eternal pre-movie question: if you have to pee just a little bit is it better to go before the film or are you breaking the seal and possibly making yourself need to pee even WORSE later? Is it better to hold it & maintain a steady state of low level discomfort and not miss anything on screen?

My favorite thing about all these New York Times movie lists so far is the vast amount of people who correctly included David Lynch’s MULHOLLAND DRIVE as one of the best movies of the 21st Century. It is objectively an all-timer. 🙏🏼

Porn sites have known this was coming for a while, with some already have implemented AI verification technology.
At least, that's uh... What I hear.
Anyways, even if they try to build a great southern firewall, they can't stop VPNs any more then the CCP.

I just watched a fascinating documentary called Q (2023) about three generations of women impacted by a matriarchal sect of Islam. It's both highly personal, and a highly artistic expression within the non-fiction film form. It leaves Criterion Channel at the end of June - watch it!

Something about 80s HBO makes me nostalgic for a time that was just before my own. Having unedited movies just play on tv still feeling like a cool luxury is something that still seems magical to me.
Another old HBO ad that I just want to hang on the wall in my home.
