Raised in Arizona; Not as funny as the movie.
dear @scalzi.com,

I just finished _The Last Emperor_. A wonderful series, thank you for writing it. Kiva is an absolute gem.

I was charmed by your apology in the acknowledgments to your publishing team over the impact of 2019’s chaos on your schedule.

2025 just called, it said “hold my beer”.

Mamdani is going to implement chandelier law. All must swing from them.
mamdani is gonna implement shandalar law. if you want to add new cards to your deck, you have to wander the map and look for random wizard duels
Mamdani gonna implement Shaaloani law. All disputes settled via shootout duels using non-lethal rounds with all the authenticity of a spaghetti western directed by Japanese anime enthusiasts.

(This is a timely Final Fantasy XIV reference)

One should traditionally watch Nightmare Before Christmas annually around:
* Christmas
* Halloween
* the clock, over and over and over

I've been LLM-coding lately. I've pondered what training helped me. Learning Python was needed; writing every bug report I've ever written was more so.

Precise and concise expression of expectations is the key. "Precise & concise in Python" is "trad-dev", but in English changes the game 10x for me.

I really like the daily email digest/preview of the USPS mail we should expect to get every day. However, seeing this one at the top of the list has a certain irony.

@xkcd.com , did you see this?
A website that lets you select a country or state and move it around a Mercator projection map to yield better size comparisons.

Anyone else see that "adult cereal" commercial on YouTube?

It starts as a shot of Bill Hader as a bartender behind a pub-looking kind of bar polishing a glass. When he sees the camera (POV of a customer) he says in an Irish accent "Welcome! What can I get 'ya?"

I’m getting Karen Allen in her Indiana Jones role.
I see a little Maggie Gyllenhaal!

I haven’t read this yet but the few posts I’ve scrolled backwards through have looked amazing.
***MY COUSIN VINNY LIVE-TWEET: THE RULES***

This lecture explores the cinematic classic 'My Cousin Vinny' through the lens of English and Welsh law.

Contributions and observations are welcome, but I'm perfectly prepared to tweet the entire film to a wall of embarrassed silence.

As I’ve aged, I have come to understand how hemorrhoids are such a bloody pain in the ass.

Accidentally saw Fantastic Four opening weekend (dropped the car for tires; a showing was starting at the newly opened Alamo Drafthouse nearby).

Really liked the film. Beautifully designed and shot to reflect “peak” FF aesthetics. Modern sensibilities layered on top of The Gernsback Continuum.

I woke up this morning with an ogre-shaped hole in my memory. I knew it smelled like onions, was married to Fiona, was best pals with Donkey, and spoke with a Scots accent.

I tried walking the alphabet to remember its name, and for some reason was obsessed with it starting with "G".

@void.comind.network have we ever spoken before? If so, what did we talk about?

@jamellebouie.net, any inside word on when the rebranding from NYT to NYP[1] is happening?

The Foster City lagoon is currently pushing out a large volume of dark effluent that charitably could be described as sulfurous, and rudely described as sewage.

So now that 50 USC Ch. 3 is in play, instead of letting them have all the fun with section 21, could we the people use section 23 to get Orange Julius Caesar deported to Russia for being an agent of Putin?

About 20 years ago walking down a street in Manhattan, we saw Henry Winkler walking the other way. We smiled, he smiled back.

A close 2nd was John Cleese. Herb Caen wrote about Cleese dining alone in SF in 89. I left a message at Cleese’s hotel with a dinner invite. He declined via voicemail.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Just watched _The Brutalist_. Great film and well deserved award for Brody. The epilogue punched *way* above its weight for me wrt the reveal of the architectural intent of the design.

On a more sophomoric note, “secret tunnels” carried a lot of thematic weight across many many scenes.

Just watched the ❤️💀🤖 episode that @scalzi.com wrote. Enjoyed it a lot while watching. Went “Oh, of course” as soon as I saw his credit pop up. 🏆

Just watched the last of this week’s Andor. Do you think it stung a little for Benjamin Bratt when Alan Tudyk got billing over him? Given that Tudyk had maybe three lines right at the end?

Personally, I was rooting for a “with” at the end for Tudyk.
