Periodic reminder that science budgets are being sucked dry by a different set of incompetent monopolists.
A staggering statistic: "North American researchers were charged over US$2.27 billion by just two for-profit publishers. The Canadian research councils and the US National Science Foundation were allocated US$9.3 billion in that year." What are we doing?
We wrote the Strain on scientific publishing to highlight the problems of time & trust. With a fantastic group of co-authors, we present The Drain of Scientific Publishing:

WATCH — @repstevenhorsford.bsky.social : “My amendment would redirect that $40 BILLION from Argentina to fund the ACA subsidies for two years… a far better use of taxpayer dollars.”

Why do we have money for Argentina while our own people lose their health care? How does this make us great?

There’s real irony in this: lawmakers can’t get back to DC to vote to reopen the government because flights are canceled, thanks to the same shutdown they caused.

Wondering if you can still believe in Democrats?

Hakeem Jeffries KEPT HIS CAUCUS UNITED against MAGA

He fought throughout the WHOLE SHUTDOWN

He’s STILL fighting even now

The ACA is one of the most significant healthcare reforms in American history.

The ACA expanded the coverage to millions of people .

It has protected people with preexisting conditions.

Young people in college can stay on their parent’s plans.

Why do republicans hate it ?
Republican politicians with gold standard healthcare telling Americans they don’t need affordable healthcare.

A lot has happened, but not much has changed.

When 34-felon & Republicans are gone, it will take millions to repair the damage (& in some cases so much more) if it's possible at all.

How many lives will be lost or derailed because some people are too stupid to vote for what's good for themselves & future generations?

What a f****** waste!
