I’m still Oklahoma's ambassador to Philadelphia. Tulanian. Lapsed sociologist. Lawyer (but not yours). Beer drinker. Sports-obsessed. He/him. Terribly fond of @cccamac.bsky.social. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Things @cccamac.bsky.social and I should open in Old City:

—a super-secret eight-seater sherry bar
—a snowball stand
—hearts and minds
—sesame
This coincided with my very first visit to Philly, which was for a job interview. I got the job, perhaps in part because I managed to *get to* the interview site!
It's been 30 years since the Blizzard of '96. Don’t bet against an encore some winter soon.
Philly’s biggest snows typically are generated by nor’easters that import moist air from the Atlantic, where sea-surface temperatures have been above normal.

I’ve been in a foul mood all day today—since realizing that KAYO and KAYOING, despite being fine words, wouldn’t play in the NYT Spelling 🐝. Hmph.

“Littler, who had to flap a hovering wasp away during the match, has spent the past two years cementing his place at the summit of darts.”
18-year-old Luke Littler wins World Darts Championship for second year in a row
Littler comfortably defeated Dutchman Gian van Veen 7-1 in the final on Saturday.

It’s pretty clear we should let the FTVs decide everything this year.
Ballot #114 is from Anthony DiComo, the 20th first-timer. He picks 4 of top 5 - Beltrán, Félix, Pettitte, Utley, who are 75%+ with FTV - plus Pedroia & Wright. Wright has 22 votes & is safe for ‘27.

My first set of 2026 Baseball Hall of Fame projections with 112 ballots in @notmrtibbs.com's Tracker. Current trends indicate that Carlos Beltrán is very likely to enter the Hall this year, but it's still unclear whether Andruw Jones will join him.

I never do "Here's what I wrote this year," because you only have to go to our site and scroll through the roughly 4,000 posts I write every year, but nothing will make me prouder than reintroducing the fabulous Harlow to the world. It's the best thing I've written in years

Harlow's still here
Fifty years ago, Harlow was the queen of Philadelphia nightlife, Jack Kelly’s girlfriend, and the city's most famous transgender woman. Today, she’s ready to tell her story.

As I said *checks notes* just yesterday about another conceptual art piece/ballot:

“This kind of, erm, year-to-year inconsistency/irrationality is almost enough to make you lose faith in democracy.”
Ballot #98 is from Zach Braziller. After dropping Jones last year, he selects him (+6) once again. Félix (net +20) and Utley (net +10) both suffer drops

“[S]orry to drop Chase Utley.” That’s all we get?! This kind of, erm, year-to-year inconsistency/irrationality is almost enough to make you lose faith in democracy.
Ballot #77 is from Evan Grant. Hernández (+18) and Hunter (+/-0) join a group of five holdovers. Chase Utley suffers a drop and falls to +8 overall

👇This bit is incorrect. A “century year” (e.g., 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000, 2100, 2200) will always be evenly divisible by four. They’re only leap years if they’re evenly divisible by 400 (e.g., 1600, 2000, 2400).
