Just in time for #caturday, I noticed something very interesting on this ancient Greek pelike (jar) featuring Poseidon and Amymone. A very rare representation of a cat. It doesn't seem to be very impressed by the presence of the gods. Perhaps this is a scene from a play ... 🏺 1/

#OnThisDay - 14 February - in 44 BC the 'Lupercalia Incident' occurred. Mark Antony attempted to present Caesar with a diadem – a symbol of kingship. A moment of deep political resonance and one which hastened Caesar's downfall. #History 🏺

This #Egyptian faience hippo statuette is painted with lotus flowers and buds, found in its marshy environment. The lotus flowers - closing every night and reopening again in the morning - also represented regeneration and rebirth. 🏺 1/ @alisonfisk.bsky.social

This superbly crafted gilt-silver roundel depicts a bearded, mature Herakles wearing his lion skin. It once formed part of the decoration of an elaborate horse's bridle. 🏺 #ancientbluesky 1/

A Corinthian delight: three examples of ancient caricatures. The pyxis at the top shows a child-like Herakles drawing water from a fountain. On the lower left, a kylix depicting a woman playing the usually all-male drinking game kottabos. On the lower right, Artemis and her curious dog. 🏺 1/

My grandfather was a USFS Ranger - in the 1950s, he and grams would take supplies to the rangers stationed up on the lookouts. They packed ice cream - that was the first thing eaten when they got to the lookout. So, it wouldn't melt out before it could be eaten.

Interesting exchange on sustainability.

In most of the PNW, huge percentages of the overall forest land base managed by federal, state, and tribal governments have set aside as much as 50% of the acreage for ecological requirements.
