Here is what it takes to make money 💸 from X :

♦️ A premium account (Blue check)
♦️ A lot of engagement from other premium account

Could X be *paying* accounts engaged in inauthentic activity?

Could these payouts be the reason these accounts exist in the first place?

X just unveiled a new feature, letting users know which country an account is being managed from.

Unsurprisingly, many large accounts (MAGA or otherwise) don't appear to match their self-description 🤔

I'm seeing a lot of commentary on how this is all #Russian state-backed #propaganda.

While it might well be, we're seeing a lot of this type of content being incentivized by #money more than #politics.

MUST READ from @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social on #Meta 's SCAM problem.

The NUMBERS are just 🤯

♦️ $ 16 billion in annually ad revenue from scam

♦️ 15 billion scam ads / day (+22 billion organic scam post)

♦️ Some ad accounts w/ >500 strikes remaining up

www.reuters.com/investigatio...
Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

#Meta pulls back from being subject to annual #BrandSafety audits by the Media Rating Council.

While not especially reassuring -- it's worth noting that the company used to be #MRC certified in spite of what appearsto be widespread (and fairly obvious) violations of its own monetization policies.
The news comes as our own research shows how #Meta consistently violates its own #monetization policies - offering monetization services to (and serving ads in) sanctioned entities, police & military pages, politician, political party, children account & more...

Meta ends (at least for now) political ads in the EU today. Per their ad library data, they've run nearly 11,000,000 different political, social and issue ads in the EU since 2018 and made around €800m from them.

Google just wiped EU data from its political ad library. Meta’s ban on political ads in the EU starts soon and we're worried they might do the same.

We need a backup of the EU Meta Ad Library now. If you have data (2018–present) or skills to help, let us know:
