A 14-word replacement for most op-eds, substacks, etc about this moment.

The GOP could stop ALL of this, right now—if a handful of Sens or Reps could step outside the cult.

It would take four in the Senate, four (maybe five) in the House, to change history.

Until then, they're all to blame.

There is the obvious 'the boss is obsessively indexing on the level of the S&P500', but an indirect way that fate of MAGA and that of the current dominant culture in equity/risk markets are intimately related is a similar paranoid fear of being a loser justifying total indulgence wrt downside risk

There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)

If a party that loses by 5 percentage points still gets to control the legislative body, do you really live in a democracy? And if you don't live in a democracy, why should your state remain a part of that union?

The president just told all of the military's leaders that all Democrats are evil and promised to send the full force of the military into Democratic cities to assault the "enemy within," and there's *still* a chance that Democratic congressmen provide the crucial votes to keep this regime running.

Why should we in California subject ourselves to a dictator with dementia who thinks of us as occupied territory just to remain part of a union with others who hate us as wish to see us fail?
If ever there was a time not to normalize Trump’s authoritarian fever dreams, this is it.

This should be impeachable. ‘War ravaged’ Portland? He’s insane - & insanely power hungry. The script is set - call an imaginary group a terror group and then send in the troops.

The first thing we do is put the Trumpists in prison where they belonged in 2021.

The next thing we do is revamp our constitution to keep authoritarians out of power for the rest of the century.

Finally, we launch a New Deal to dwarf the old one and rebuild a better, stronger America by 2050.
