This nicely sums up my position as well.

My moral allegiance is also to the people in my country being cruelly rounded up and deported without due process, some dying in the process and most leaving anguished and traumatized family and friends, and I have similar sentiments for my regime.
For clarity: my moral allegiance in this moment of such enormous suffering is to the PEOPLE of Israel, Gaza, and Iran.

The REGIMES of those places—Hamas militants, the Netanyahu administration and its IDF and “settler” agents; the Iranian regime—can go to hell, the lot of them.

What is really going on in this society that elected Donald Trump president a second time?

I wrote about three stubborn myths about Trump’s support – and why America has experienced a de-alignment rather than a rightward realignment.

My new piece for @zeit.de – and some thoughts in English:
Unterstützung von Donald Trump: Die Irrtümer über Donald Trumps Rückhalt
Rechtsruck, multiethnische Koalition, Held einfacher Leute: Trump gilt als fest verankert. Doch diese Überzeugung beruht auf drei großen Missverständnissen.

I sincerely hope ICE and CBP goons are triggered for the rest of their life by whistles and someone holding a phone up: it’s the least they deserve.
Incredible video from Reddit (too large to upload the screencap). CBP agents attempt to detain a flower vendor and end up getting chased into a vacant lot by a crowd of teenagers. What a bunch of impotent sad sacks.

A worthwhile read. I used to hoard knowledge like those crabs that attach bits of sponge to their shell, thinking this accretion would make me smarter. Starting with deleting almost 20 years of emails, I’ve been shedding my hoard & found it liberating. #YAGNI

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Yep, this, and look at how all this is being covered. Happened with #MeToo as well. We need to work on our (non-religious) morality, and the classics remind us it has always been thus.
Absolutely fitting coda to the whole Epstein horror show is that the brave testimony of dozens of women could not be credited and we need the emails of men to deem it credible.

I think the whole reason we don’t have universal healthcare is because the current broken system makes some folks a whole lot of money and they like it that way.
To me among the most infuriating parts about the healthcare debate and ACA credits is this would not be an issue if we were like every developed country on Earth and GUARANTEED HEALTHCARE AS A HUMAN RIGHT.

We'd pay half per capita what we're paying now, have more coverage, & longer life expectancy.

And… looks like I was right, dammit. 🤦‍♂️😡
I’m in a particularly cynical mood today, so what this thread tells me is that when the Democrats finally cave to the GOP, we’re well and truly fucked. I hope I’m wrong.
1. Before the No Kings demonstrations two weekends ago, I suggested that the shutdown of the government would look different afterward.

While they’re still screwing about with SNAP, it’s a good idea to donate to pet shelters, too.

If you dare show up with “poor people shouldn’t have pets”, I will tear such a new one it generates a black hole.

Families on SNAP worry about not just feeding themselves but also their pets
With SNAP benefits going out late, nonprofits are begging for pet food donations to prevent desperate owners from surrendering their dogs and cats to animal shelters.

lunar swoon, lunar reflection
a current govt and leader, craven

hey there, moon,
would you hold our light,
soften our plight

soothe our sorrows
hold us together,
hold us tender...

lunar swoon,
reassure our bruised hearts

through a new morrow
that things aren't so dark
