All the data suggests is that people across the spectrum think they are of “average” competence at things. This is wholly unsurprising.

My local paper has been running a social media pity/nostalgia campaign about how they are stopping their print edition. This is infuriating to me. You are owned by a massive media conglomerate!! You could easily continue to backstop a printed paper instead of turning this into clicks!!

My #instagram #reels #algorithm is a strange place. I often wonder how it got this way. I am sure it says something about me that is not flattering.

2025 goes down as the ~3rd-warmest year on record (based on ERA5).

Like in 2024, every single day this past year was warmer than the average of even the most recent reference period (1991-2020).

Can’t quite tell what to do about this stuff (e.g. Venezuela). I don’t live close to DC. Doesn’t make sense to protest locally because (1) my state didn’t do this and (2) national displays of anti-Trump sentiment have accomplished precisely nothing. Can’t vote until Nov. What the fuck can I do?

Some friends have asked what my New Year’s resolution is. I’ve mostly told them I don’t have one.

It’s become my belief that the purpose of life is to inspire in others transcendent joy. This does not particularly need to be grandiose; it can be accomplished by cooking someone a meal, etc.

Something that appears really important in cementing social media appeal is merging either high info or genuine/thoughtful posts with a confident and intentional personality ‘in bio’.

I will never do this.
