Somehow while being completely overwhelmed and editing ALL THE THINGS I managed to write a funky headline…and the front page editor liked it so much that he echoed the phrase in a teaser.

…so I’ve got that going for me.

We're still looking for someone in the Inland Empire area to adopt or foster this little tortoiseshell kitty. I'm willing to drive halfway to L.A. if anyone there wants to meet up to take her.
A neighbor was taken to a care facility, and her little tortoiseshell kitty was left behind. I can't take her in but I've been feeding her and giving her water every day. No one in the neighbor's family can take her in. Is there anyone in the Inland Empire area that could foster or adopt her?

Got to edit a story about elephant seals today. Might be the most fun I’ve had all day.

(Of course I had fun with the headline.)

Misadventures in judging a professional contest:

Me: Ahhhh! This isn’t my area of expertise. What am I doing here?

Also me: Oh wait, that’s a big error.*

*not the entrant’s fault. I emailed the contest contact about this to see if we can’t fix it.

She has a name. Damn.

Hey, @apstylebook.com could we get some guidance on the term “kowtow”? My searches came up short and I didn’t know how to handle it in my copy.

(I ended up asking for a second opinion and it was swapped out.)

Hey, fellow Southern Californians -

Please amplify this wide and far.

Office manager encouraged me to sign up to be a judge for another state’s headline contest. Haven’t tried this before but, hey, why not? Sometimes I know stuff.

Today in struggle bus news editing:

Story update takes forever and boss doesn’t like the section editor’s suggested headline and requests that YOU (a tired-ass copy editor*) make a better one.

*I couldn’t figure out the word “plan,” that’s how I know I’m tired.

This is coming from a place of love and support, but…

It’s ‘shoo-in,’ not ‘shoe-in.’

It’s ‘case in point,’ not ‘case and point.’

It’s ‘moot point,’ not ‘mute point.’

It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’

It’s ‘jibe with,' not 'jive with.'

Spiciest thing that happened today at the desk was a discussion on the verb “whisk.” I had issues with it in a specific context.
