Rethink the Deal
@rethinkthedeal.com
Rethink the Deal is raising a question too many leaders are afraid to ask: Why are hard-working, high-performing states shelling out billions to a federal system that gives them less in return—and often works against them?
Pinned
@srkelleher.bsky.social today:

“Today’s subcommittee markup is a positive step, but there’s still a long road ahead,” a spokesperson for Rethink the Deal told @forbes.com.

We must keep the pressure on elected officials to protect our national parks.

Americans need lower prices.

Wages haven’t kept pace with inflation. Economists worry about a recession, but families are worried about making it through the month.

We're not asking for pre-pandemic prices, we just want prices we can afford, @moreperfectunion.bsky.social.

“Just get a job.”

Except 74% of working-age SNAP recipients in Massachusetts already have one, yet still rely on SNAP to eat.

And for every dollar MA sends to Washington, it gets only 70 cents back.

Make it make sense, @mcsquared.bsky.social.

While Trump threatens to strip over $3 billion in funding to fight homelessness, NY only gets 76¢ back for every $1 it sends to the federal government.

New Yorkers are already being shortchanged & now 170,000 people are at risk.

Does this sound like a fair deal, @newyorkstateag.bsky.social?

Withholding $4B in winter heating aid is blatant neglect, @massgovernor.bsky.social.

Many of the affected states send more to the federal gov't than they get back.

If the @whitehouse-47.bsky.social won’t hold up its end of the bargain, is it time for states like Mass to rethink their approach?
The shutdown is over, but the Trump Administration is delaying heating assistance another week — in late November.

Families need heat now. The President should release the funds immediately.

With the GOP and the @whitehouse-47.bsky.social dereliction of duty, @governor.pa.gov is stepping up to ensure Pennsylvanians can travel safely.
BREAKING: I’ve authorized nearly $220 million to be made available to SEPTA – so they can make necessary safety repairs to over 200 Silverliner IV rail cars, upgrade trolley infrastructure, keep riders safe, and continue to deliver reliable, on-time service.

Gov-elect @mikiesherrill.bsky.social is suggesting NJ may need to withhold federal tax dollars in response to the Trump admin’s politicization of aid.

Newsom floated this months ago via @danieljhan.bsky.social.

People are starting to ask whether Washington is keeping its end of the bargain.
New Jersey may stop paying federal taxes under new governor
Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill said on a podcast with Jon Stewart it's a "great idea."

Lower costs?

We're right with you, @kim.senate.gov, as a recent @fortune.com article underlines the exact opposite.

NJ residents are already paying more to the federal government than they get back: 61¢ back for every $1 paid.

This isn't fair.

Uhhhh, and democrats are the ones stoking violence?

Asking for a friend, @meidastouch.com.
Trump follows up this post by calling for these Democratic lawmakers to be put to death

It's dystopian & communities are only suffering from these raids, @joncooper-us.bsky.social.

For the over 200,000 Coloradans who rely on ACA tax credits to access healthcare, the longer Congress waits to extend them, the more uncertainty people face over their healthcare future.

How are you working to extend these credits, @bennet.senate.gov?

(Map via @kffhealthnews.org)
Coloradans are facing up to 400% or more in increased monthly premiums if we don’t act now and extend ACA tax credits.

This will extend a critical lifeline to families, but it won’t be enough.

We must fix our broken health care system and ensure every family has access to affordable care.
November 20, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Yep, @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social.

While the Trump administration is leaving New Yorkers and Americans behind, New Yorkers continue to foot the bill.

For every dollar paid to the federal government, New York receives only 76¢ back.

Now that doesn't seem very fair.
November 19, 2025 at 7:08 PM
While Trump and @whitehouse-47.bsky.social may see ACA tax credits as a waste, millions of New Yorkers need this support.

Check out the @kff.org map, which illustrates just how important these credits are for Americans across the country,
@governor.ny.gov.

The build-up to #midterms2026 just got more interesting as the GOP took a major blow in its Texas gerrymandering efforts.

According to @paulmitche11.bsky.social, #Prop50 is not immediately implicated by this court's decision.

All good news for @democrats.org.

It's messed up, @kim.senate.gov.

As NJ Assembly member-elect @katiebrennan.bsky.social said:

"We have to show Trump it is not okay."

These funds have been held hostage by the Trump Admin for too long.
November 18, 2025 at 3:59 PM
To no one's surprise, @factpostnews.bsky.social.

The Trump administration has been blatantly disregarding Americans left and right.

Still left with questions:

➡️Last Tuesday's electorate displayed an appetite for change. Will that trend continue?
Host: A new poll shows only 33% of Americans approve of the way Trump is managing the government. Those numbers driven in part by a steady drop in approval among Republicans, down 13 points since March
November 14, 2025 at 6:00 PM
For every $1 Colorado sends to the federal government, it gets just 83¢ back. Colorado pays their share, but @whitehouse-47.bsky.social doesn't care.

Trump refuses to protect the 225,000 Coloradans who rely on health care subsidies.

Coloradans deserve better right, @senatorhick.govpeeps.us?

You tell them, @mikelevin.org!

It's critical to take action before more families across America find themselves in a vulnerable position, while the federal government abdicates responsibility.

How are California's leaders, like @governor.ca.gov, putting their constituents first?
Families are already stretched thin.

Now Republicans have driven health care costs higher while Trump hosts Gatsby parties with wealthy donors.

I am fighting to lower costs and protect affordable care so people can get treatment without going broke.
November 12, 2025 at 9:10 PM
Like the millions of Americans who will see astronomical premiums in the new year, @massgovernor.bsky.social is fed up with Republicans' lack of urgency.

More than 300,000 Massachusetts residents could lose critical assistance to access health insurance if federal tax credits expire.
November 12, 2025 at 8:03 PM
Democrats as favorites to take back the House should surprise no one.

The Trump Admin has used its first year to antagonize its political opponents & withhold funding at the expense of enacting policies that actually improve the quality of life, @joncooper-us.bsky.social.
