Fair to wonder why we don't comment a lot on the development of Goodbye Volcano High, the challenges of developing it and the compromises that had to be made for it to exist at all, but uh, look at the temperature of any conversation about it online and think about that a second longer.

GVH gets so much slack for only having one ending, that so many people miss it's thematic importance, as well as genuinely brilliant design decisions in the choice making mechanics that I haven't seen in any other game before or since.
Seriously, the choice design and mechanics are phenomonal.

Sometimes a story can be a little slice of life with interesting characters. It doesn't have to have some grand moral or ideal. Not everything needs to be commentary.

Tbh I wouldn't care about the fact that the kidnapping of Maduro was illegal if we actually were bothering to do a regime change for the benefit of the people but every single regime change war has ended either disastrous or was motivated by profit and then ended disastrously.

Safe rule of thumb to use with online discourse is that if someone mentions Concord or Dustborn in the same breath as another game, you can discard any opinions they have on said game.
The fact that these short lived indies that left no mark are still being used in discourse is absurd.

Having actually played grassroots "woke" stuff (i.e Dustborn and Goodbye Volcano High) the experience is less watching someone push propaganda and more someone driving into a wall at 200 miles an hour and dying because they realized halfway through development they could never make OMORI.
