Hey there! We're Reserva, a bunch of kids and young people from 30+ countries working to create protected areas in biodiversity hotspots. We mostly meet virtually to plan fundraisers for our projects, but we've gotten to know each other at school talks, social meetups, conferences, and expeditions!

Having an @ipbes.bsky.social Plenary session in Namibia is a pretty big deal!

Assessments will be stronger if more science emerges from Africa, particularly with more African scientists leading the research. Anyone who has attended COPs/Plenaries knows location is more than symbolic.

#IPBES11 is around the corner! 📢

But...do you know what an @ipbes.bsky.social Plenary session is and why this one is so important? 🤔

One reason (among many) is: it's the first-ever IPBES Plenary session held on African soil! 🌍🧪

When @ipbes.bsky.social listed climate change as one of the top five drivers of biodiversity loss, this is why. These are intertwined crises, and we *have* to solve them both.
Must read out in @science.org "Climate change extinctions"
by @MarkCUrban (on X)
www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Big take home:
"extinctions will accelerate rapidly if global temperatures exceed 1.5°C. The highest-emission scenario would threaten approximately one-third of species, globally."

We all have that one friend who finds out about THE climate solution. Regen grazing, planting trees, going vegan, nuclear energy... there is no ONE solution, but there are priorities. @projectdrawdown.bsky.social is great for understanding how we should prioritize the MANY solutions we need to use.
The overhyping of regenerative grazing as a climate solution needs to end.

While it has some other benefits, regenerative grazing pales as a climate solution compared to shifting diets and reducing food waste.

The hype is not helping anything.

Regenerative grazing is overhyped as a climate solution. We should do it anyway.
