Wouldn’t rule out Vaakanainen forcing his way into the Rangers future. He’s doing a lot of things the Rangers like and committing to him isn’t going to be very expensive

Biggest takeaway for me from the fantastic Vince piece is that Drury isn’t even remotely in the hot seat and that they need to split his roles into President of Hockey Ops and GM, where Drury becomes just the President and they hire another GM.

This is Drury making space to build the roster in his image. Vaakanainen and Borgen might find their way into the Rangers future but they aren’t players that Drury needs to commit to.

Even in literally the best of circumstances where the Rangers tank and win the lottery, there’s no immediate help coming. This is a mediocre at best draft and the best center available (Hagens) could probably use another year in college all things considered.
NYR's vibes are so bad right now that I think it's kind of undermined the fact that, even in decent conditions, this team has no first-line center and two reliable defensemen.

Barring shocking revelations about Chris Drury, the clear narrative forming about this team is that they are more concerned about playing with their friends then winning hockey games. They were talented enough to do both at one point, that has changed.
