Only the wealthy can afford to sit on empty properties
A walk down Adelaide St in historic Cork city centre is another stark reminder of this, the area is being destroyed
Have no doubt hoarding properties in a housing emergency is akin to hoarding food in famine #DerelictIreland

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"

I cannot watch the current format of @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social and the gleeful antics of so-called political journalists whilst we are all terrified of the way the world is panning out. #bbcnewsnight

"While $135 billion is spent annually on biodiversity conservation, up to $3.3 trillion in public subsidies are directed toward sectors that harm nature.

This imbalance mirrors the broader issue of wealth concentration."

Great @theecologist.org piece on making the connections around nature loss.

This looks like an exciting new book by Richard Nairn about the wide array of nature restoration projects that are underway in Ireland.

Important context here:

● over half of farms are less than 49 acres (20 hectares)

● "a big farm" is 217 acres.

Now let's see who's angry:

● Clarkson farm is 1,000 acres
● Lloyd Webber farms 4,000 acres
● Viscount Rothermere (Mail owner) 4,700 acres
● Dyson owns 36,000 acres
A message from a REAL farmer who hasn’t been brainwashed by the Tories, wealthy landowners and the right wing media👇🏽

It's a good thing that farm orgs have lost influence as they have been default blockers of environmental action. Though I would prefer to see a body emerge to that would actively work towards the transition needed .

This is why we were fucked over by Thatcher and this ideology has intensified its grip on us ever since.
How privatisation works (and Thames Water is just the latest example).
1. A government takes a national asset built up with taxpayers' money and the work of public servants over many years, and hands it, for a fraction of its value, to a private company.
2. In doing so, it creates a monopoly.

Genuine question re farmers. If a farmer receives substantial tax-payer funded subsidies and grants yet still claims a production margin of just 0.5%, isn’t their business model completely broken?
