There are multitudinous policy conflicts involved in the effective management of deer populations, and not least the lack of reliable scientific data. Ashley Glover himself points this out in the recent Conservation and Science podcast. It’s so easy to oversimplify the problem at hand

Isn’t it ironic that with a “perhaps” 100,000 population (around 50% of the sheep population in Wicklow), a professional hunter still can’t locate one?

Hard to reconcile this with the “we are the custodians of the environment” rhetoric that we are constantly hearing

His question illustrated perfectly how utterly stupid he is. No question regarding global warming is “simple” other than in his own head

I assume that Booking.com and the myriad of other short term holiday letting agencies would be included in the booting out?

For ‘people’ read farmers

Whilst in full agreement with your premise Eoghan, I feel that the time has come for the ‘backup’ to be appropriately implemented. Natural regeneration will always be the optimum but we have an ecological equivalent of a salted earth which requires immediate pro activity as time is not on our side.

Bearing in mind the ace at which geopolitics is currently moving.. That is a really big call

That view of an apparently ‘bucolic’ Kilcatherine Point is actually an excellent example of ecological carnage hiding in plain sight

Aye… and they’ll still want their names on any published work 🙄

Whilst agreeing with you Eoghan, I know too many eejit farmers would persecute any introduced predators just as they have the indigenous ones. Without the farming community on board I struggle to see the way forward

I was completely unaware that a subjective hierarchical table from worst to least worst existed. I am very much aware that ecological damage and the causes can be measured and traced objectively.

This is also a fact.

Whilst you were in Killarney NP yesterday Eoghan, I was out on the Sheep’s Head witnessing vast swathes of potential habitat being incinerated to ‘maintain’ the grazing of Ireland’s already ecologically depleted landscape.

My blood boils along with yours

You really have to recognise that evil nasty electric car salesmen have no regard whatsoever for who you are.. you are simply a series of ones and zeros, as is your GP and family
