No sunset to speak of in Ucluelet tonight so here's a Great Blue Heron in flight at Big Beach. It never occurred to me that the soles of their feet would be yellow.

We call this...

Herondipity - the faculty or phenomenon of finding heron moments not sought for.
A heron came into the frame just as I snapped this photo of the tree's reflection. Pretty generous of him, I think. #landscape #photography #nicomekl #Surrey #BC

Trump's regime has murdered people in the water. He has seized ships on the high seas. He has invaded a country and kidnapped their leader.
All bets are off with the United States.
Canada needs to build alliances with Europe and to be ready on the home front.

Welcome back to Canada, President Zelenskyy.

Today in Halifax, we committed critical new support to help Ukraine end Russia’s war of aggression, and to recover and rebuild. When peace comes — and it will come — Canada will be there for the Ukrainian people. Slava Ukraini. 🇨🇦🇺🇦

Lester B. Pearson, Canada's 14th prime minister, passed away on this date in 1972 at the age of 75.

He played with the Guelph Maple Leafs, served on the Expos board of directors and he used to interrupt parliamentary sessions to get baseball scores.

Next year will see a bit of a showdown between Enbridge Gas and two Ontario municipalities that are trying to resist a decades-old agreement that allows the fossil fuel company to build pipelines on public land free of charge. I really want you all to read about on Christmas Eve.

Carney criticizes Trudeau's climate action policies as not enough action, but then gets rid of all of them as soon as he becomes PM. 🤨
Where are Carney's climate policies?
So far, he's "not enough regulation and NO action."

Seeing Carney and Ford all chummy, chummy, like best buds, makes me want to vomit. Nature is screwed. So are we.
Premier Ford and I agree – one project, one review. We just signed an agreement that will streamline approval processes and get major infrastructure projects built faster in Ontario.

The guy in the glasses at the bottom left is the former Poilievre staffer who led the charge to get me booted from the fact checking gig on CTV's Your Morning.

Love the collegial solidarity of........having him on the show I used to produce as a pundit, as if that never happened!

Don't worry if you've not received a reply during this latest subs window. We've had a massive response and it's taking a bit of time to work through the emails. If you still haven't heard by December 21st, give the DB a nudge.

There's been a super response to our Dec. flight call-out. Thank you to all our poets (poets appearing on the Balloon automatically become members of the DB Club). Subs window closing at midnight GMT. JH & the crew (Arthur the Dog) will be tied to the laptops for a while now. 🎈

For information: before we upload poems on the DB, we endeavour to contact poets with the news. Gmail accounts cause us problems (they come bouncing straight back so I use a different email account to get through). Do check your spam/junk folder if you're expecting a reply. JH
