Things I was not expecting yesterday:
1. Meeting a colleague who also uses Habitica at times for tasks
2. Talking about the time commitment that comes with DnD with another colleague.

Accidentally listed my pop and rock class as "poop and rock" on a "to do" list and if anyone needs me, I will be giggling likely a very professional 12 year old.

It's 25F out with a wind chill of 12F (-4/-11C) and I'm about to talk out the door with fairly wet hair. Will report later if my hair freezes.

Fun fact: my hair doesn't like dryers. I look like a frightened cat and it takes me ~45 min to get to "mostly dry."

Weird Music Question: A student and I noticed the literal can of worms in the Sneaker Pimps' video to "6 Underground" this morning and were trying to think of other music videos featuring ACTUAL worms.

Any ideas folks?

This is going to bring me some joy.
Pentametron was one of the great web art projects, retweeting couplets of accidentally iambic tweets. Thanks to Bluesky's open feed, I have resurrected the concept..

Behold @iambic.bot!

25F (-4C) outside and 62F (16.8C) inside my office. I may have to run laps in the hall to warm up.

My brain, this morning: OK, after I cry about getting @kwallent.bsky.social to the airport, I will get all this stuff done.

My body, this afternoon: Have you considered being unable to do anything at all as a compromise?

I'm chilling on the couch until further notice.

Get you a bestie whose idea of a fun Satursay night is a swanky bar followed by eating takeout while collectively shouting "holy f---" at art restoration videos.

In The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, after hearing about a massive & deadly scapegoating, the narrator asks why the peasants didn't attack the landlords, their true enemies, & is told, "When your real enemies are too strong, you get weaker enemies," & every day I think about this & also see it

Not music theory, but U.S. (and maybe Canada) friends, check your bagged carrots: www.fda.gov/food/outbrea...
Outbreak Investigation
Do not eat or serve multiple brands of recalled bagged organic whole and baby carrots supplied by Grimmway Farms. FDA’s investigation is ongoing.

This week, UofL is hosting @kwallent.bsky.social as part of our Music Theory and History Colloquium. I can't wait to hear her inspire our students with her work on minimalism.

She's also the inspiration behind me cleaning up my guest room for the first time in a few months.

Today's accomplishments: finally 99% caught up on this semester.

Tomorrow: Next semester.

Or possibly tomorrow is me taking a break. One of the two.

As an 18th century scholar, I suppose I will have to snerd. You know, for research purposes.
My word of the day (and personal recommendation) is ‘snerdling’ (18th century): nestling cosily beneath the covers and holding off the day a little longer.

Morning.

It’s mostly white people who talk about echo chambers. Maybe you need the internet to meet people with different ideas but the rest of us do not. We know what the “other side” thinks because we deal with it every day! Everywhere! We’re fine. Carry on. Happy Saturday!

Good news: out from under Mount Grading.

Better news: continuing my Nth re-watch of Adam West Batman.

Was reading an analysis essay that had a clearly marked "history" section. I was expecting schlocky filler-type stuff (super common) but instead was met with one of the most well-written and researched takes on composer style I've ever seen in a graduate-level essay. Made my day.

Day 4 post conference: still digging myself put from under Mount Grading.

Hey! If you know me from conferences or whatever, please let me know. I've tried to keep up, but I've literally gained over 150 followers in a single week and I am only human (or at least I play human on TV).

Downsides of two rounds of Bell's Palsy: lots.

Upside: When the dentist numbs half my face, I can still eat and drink "normally."

Blue pen burst on me in a coffee shop. It looks like I have had inappropriate contact with a Smurf.

Oh, and thanks to a facial itch, I got to scrub blue ink off of my forehead as well.

This is SUCH a Monday.

Never mind. I found myself. (20-year-old me would be so proud--bloody took long enough).
How would one find out if they were in a starter pack? I feel like that would explain the extreme influx of followers lately.
