White light image of today's sun showing sunspots and H-alpha images showing more details and prominences. Caught between clouds.

Last night's "Supermoon" aka "Wolf Moon". The moon is at perigee, closer to earth, so it appears about 14% larger than when it is at apogee.🧪

After a late night, there's nothing like a cup of coffee. Here are annotated GCxGC-MS chromatograms for the aroma compounds in two very different coffees from my local roasters.🧪

Brief gap between clouds gave me my last solar images of 2025. Not great seeing conditions, but still interesting to see the solar activity! 🧪

A more detailed view of the Christmas Tree Cluster. The blur that looks like a comet is Hubble's Variable Nebula. The image of NGC 2264 includes the Cone Nebula (dark cone), the Christmas Tree Cluster, the Stellar Snowflake Cluster, and the Fox Fur Nebula (white part in the middle). 🧪

Merry Christmas! Here's an image I took of NGC2264, the Christmas Tree Cluster from a year or so ago with the little Seestar S50 telescope. 🧪

Happy Winter #Solstice! Here's today's sun in white light, H-alpha (orange and inverted with pale blue background) and Calcium K wavelengths (blue).🧪

Another great accomplishment by my friends at the Pacific and Yukon Laboratory for Environmental Testing in North Vancouver! They used the JEOL USA AccuTOF-DART to identify small molecules in ginseng species to combat poaching and the illegal trade in endangered species.🧪https://bit.ly/4pbH2Fl

Two views of the "Ghost of Casseiopeia" nebula (I63). The first is from my Dwarf 3, a small, inexpensive smart telescope. The second is from my full refractor rig, a Redcat 71 WIFD with a cooled camera. Color differences are due to different filters. Size and angle differences are meaningless. 🧪

Brief sunshine today and a low winter sun, but here's today's white-light solar image. Not much different from yesterday, but you can see the rotation of the sunspots. 🧪

Limited with what i can do with the larger telescopes while I recover from minor surgery, but the smaller scopes are light, portable, and quick to set up. Here's today's sun as a white-light image with a neutral density filter using the SeeStar S50. 🧪

Flying Bat Nebula (red) and Squid Nebula (blue). This isn't a very good image because you can't see details on the Squid Nebula, but it's 36 hours of data acquisition and some tricky data processing. I probably won't get more data on this until next year, so this is it for now. 🧪

The moon is a bane for deep-space astrophotography, but it's somewhat better than clouds. If the moon is up, I might as well take some lunar images. Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 moon.🧪
