By separating the colors and balancing them, I can get a MUCH better image. Further image processing uses mathematics to extract and enhance fine details.

There's more there than meets the eye because there are separate "channels" for the component red, green, and blue colors. There are twice as many green pixels on the camera sensor than red or blue pixels.

Last night's moon. The blue image is what the stacked video looks like right off the telescope. That's the best 75 images from a 1-minute video. "Lucky imaging" is a tactic to deal with fast image fluctuations due to atmospheric disturbances.
