A drear but nevertheless beautiful day @popelouchum.bsky.social Attempting to prune the self-crossed Sérine biotypes but somewhat thwarted by the ambient companion flora - what we used to call “weeds.”

Trump's dictatorship coup is now fully in the open. Wake up America.

There is no way Senate Dems should vote for DHS funding while Republicans are threatening to nationalize elections and Trump is threatening to do it by executive order. ICE reforms are no longer enough. Their authoritarianism must be fought with every legislative lever available.

An image we won't soon forget. Attorney General Pam Bondi refused to look at Epstein survivors pictured behind her on the Hill today.

Finally getting some rain at last. It makes driving a lot more perilous but damn, is it needed.

Saab broken down again in the vineyard. May have blown up two radiators in the process. Awaiting the tow truck. This appears to be a somewhat recurring theme in my life.

The cartoon that appeared this week on the front page of France’s most influential national newspaper, Le Monde

Brilliant work by the cartoonist, Guffo.

I think it’s supercool of the authoritarian panopticon doorbell company to name themselves after the demon video that kills you in 7 days; almost as cool as the authoritarian panopticon precrime software company to name themselves after the evil demon orb that puts its users in thrall to Sauron.

We are so flocked.

I’m sorry but I think this is very amusing.

Meant to take a photo of the very very close nursery rows of Grenache but will do next time. Just finished planting 4500 rootings. I have the most unholy notion to consider leaving them in situ indefinitely. This is not an entirely rational idea but if one can pull it off, results might astound.

Putting the Nebbiolo back in the nebula.
Wine Industry Professionals: such a tiny nebula in the Bluesky galaxy.

A round up of chores this morning before heading to the vineyard. But first, the sun has to come up.

Not a terribly long visit to the vineyard but a lovely one. Pruned the head trained Cinsault and futzed around with the nursery boxes. Extra bonus -espied 2 very well fed coyotes sauntering down the main avenue as if they owned the joint. They do.

Pure evil. As if there was ever any doubt.

My new strategy of attempting to fall asleep before midnight to avoid the witching hour of the NYT puzzles, is meeting limited success as I’m invariably up a few hours later and what else are you going to do at that ungodly hour.

I am drowning in a sea of correspondence and sundry paperwork. There must be something better, grander outside the confines of these 4 walls

Old French car made it to the vyd and back today. Arguably fared better than its old American driver.

If you take a gander at the popelouchum.com website, you will find that we are offering a rather magnificent pear/apple/quince cider. Very limited production; this might be something you want to consider rather sooner than later.

Saab's still down, indefinitely due to unavailability of parts. That means it's the old Citroen which is now my primary means of transportation. One might wish to take a deep breath at this point. #awaywego

Undergoing a minor medical procedure this morning. As unpleasant as it is, it utterly pales in comparison to what the poor detainees from ICE are subjected to.

Actually rather a good day today out schlepping wine despite the pall that envelopes the wine biz. But it feels sometimes that I am obliged to personally sell every last bottle. Not the only producer who feels that way.

I will have the willpower to resist the Spelling Bee, which is just around the corner.

Out tomorrow schlepping a wine bag. While it is the most fun to grow the grapes, second best thing is making the wine. A distant third is traveling to the ends of the earth, trying to sell it.
