This is maybe the most frustrating piece of CAHSR reporting I’ve read, and that’s saying something. No one wants to do the work of in depth investigative reporting on the details of the problems with the project. Instead they would rather go talk to people and report their opinions and complain.

I woke up thinking about the internet. In my lifetime, billions of people began communicating with one another across the planet, daily. It is hard to overstate the significance of this shift for our species.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

We're not done yet | 18F

All bad political thought begins with trying to institutionalize progress into an ism

Accept it when it happens, keep trying to patiently provoke it when it doesn’t. That’s all you can do. Progress is content that breaks containers, not a containerization form factor.
Note I posted on substack.

Substack has turned into my default posting place now for broader topics.

Vancouver NIMBYs are trying to save these plain boxes from Broadway Subway induced redevelopment so I really don't want to hear about how aesthetics matter.

They recognize that homes matter more than aesthetics when convenient. There's no point in appeasing them.

Is the value of expertise fragile, robust, or anti-fragile in the Talebian sense?
The other way to phrase this is there is now a deep undersupply of wonkery in the marketplace of ideas.

And I believe that supplying that wonkery will be deeply valuable, not just for society, but for the people that do it
For a brief period people were woke to systemic problems but it really seems like the personality defect theory of evil has made a comeback.

The mainstream has stopped trying to care about wonkery.

Journalists yearn to expose corruption but it's a lot harder to do that now than it used to be so instead they instead they talk about transparent public sector salaries as if it's corruption.

Not sure if any third-party Bluesky developers can help. I know that public Lists are coming soon to Bluesky but private Lists are further away.
