We should always remember two things:

1.) #Gifted education is not a privilege.
2.) Gifted work is equity work.

Nothing like an all-night #coffee shop for a 9pm cup of the good stuff and some dissertation coding.

How great would it be if, once a semester, or three times a year (#NAGC Annual, Spring, & Summer) the directors/coordinators/asst. dirs. of #Gifted in the nation’s 50 (or 100) largest districts got together.

How do we create this association? What does this work look like? How do we move forward?

Gained about 200 followers in 12 hours from the #EduSky and #BookSky crowd.

And the #Hoosiers won. Today is a good day.

Book Two for Thanksgiving Break is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ The Message. I’ve always loved stories of travel and have recently loved all things Coates. Just a chapter in and the prose, unsurprisingly, is rich and eloquent and with plenty of depth. | #BookSky #EduSky

Published 3wks ago, Wright says “no high-quality research shows that heterogeneous differentiation can work at scale for the full range of student readiness levels” & “several lg-scale meta-anlys say it doesn’t”

So why keep building rubrics to evaluate tchrs on something that cant be done? #EduSky

We had a medical emergency on my most recent flight and it got me to thinking… why don’t airlines all have basic medical tools like stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, etc.? Seems like they would, right?

I do a fair amount of traveling and this is a record. Well done SeaTac.

I was told by a prominent researcher in the field of #gifted at #NAGC24 that we should set our identification local norms at a percentile equal to the resources we have.

So, set your local norms to 95% if you can only afford to provide adv. opportunities to 5% of your students.

Thoughts?

Interesting results of a study were shared at #NAGC24 detailing parent perspectives of #gifted

63% of parents (77priv/62pub)say advanced academic classes are important

55% (68priv/54pub) would either extremely, very or s/what likely move schools if adv classes were eliminated

Would like to introduce you to the better of two educators in our house @amandaramey.bsky.social who is kind of a rockstar instructional coach and an expert of Building Thinking Classrooms and mathematics. I get to travel, but she goes to Hawaii to do school things. Much cooler!

Another great #NAGC conference. Seattle, a great host and a wonderful city. | #NAGC24
November 24, 2024 at 7:41 PM
If I’ve said it once…. Anyway, #NAGC24 has always been an amazing conference that is missing a key educator demographic…. school principals and assistant principals.

These are often the folks making decisions for schools re: GT, but we need to have more sessions offered that inform the day to day.

If we know that tests like CogAT, NNAT, NGAT, etc create anxiety for students and teachers AND that students perform closer to their potential after real practice of that test, why not create some kind of creative play-practice at the sign on screen for these tests w/feedback? | #Gifted #NAGC24
November 23, 2024 at 10:41 PM
Four state directors of #gifted agree, we must stop thinking universal screening’s only purpose is for GT ID.

Dr. McKinney (CO) makes a significant plea to use this information to push educators to use this information to inform practices for every student in the building. | #NAGC24

Following a really important/actionable study released in GCQ, some salient points:

Get away from “who is gifted” and shift the focus to “who needs what and at what time”

If we are spending so much on #gifted ID, why are we doing it if it doesn’t match services?

Big, big fan of Matt and Ditch that Textbook. Can, should, must follow.
Heyyyyyyy friends. I finally made it! 👋

Matt here, the Ditch That Textbook guy. 🗑

If you're an educator, say "hey" and I'll follow you back!

Also: Suggest any starter packs I should check out.

Thanks ... excited to be here! #EduSky

Met an educator today who is very concerned about meeting the needs of their students because the state they come from just elected a new governor who has openly said that #gifted students don’t need additional supports.

That should never happen.

We have work to do.

Gifted work is equity work.
