There were pictures leaked from a morgue in Iran, where the bodies were tagged with number sheets. From these, we know that at least 11 000 people were murdered. Since that is the largest number seen on the sheets.

Keep in mind that the 11 000 dead protestors number is from Teheran alone. There were massacres in the other cities as well, we don't know how many were murdered there. And according to Iranian friends there are rumours that the worst massacres happened in small rural towns in the South.
