This very American idea that joining the military somehow makes you a better person is so weird. I don't care that you and your entire family "served". Actually, I do, it speaks to your judgement. Putting on a uniform doesn't automatically make you a good person, or "better", or "patriotic".

The apparent belief that we as a nation can simply invade whatever nation we wish, for whatever reason we create, is not going to end well for us. And never really has. Over 20 years in Afghanistan and the only people "we" helped was military contractors.

While I despise trump it's valid to question how Venezuela is any different than Iraq. Afghanistan. Somalia. Vietnam.... Is murdering fishermen truly different than "collateral damage" from "bad intel"? How is arresting a leader different than murdering one and dumping their body in the ocean?

Each time we've done something like this, and it's been far too many times, it seems like not a single person involved could see past their own nose. Do they think the entirety of Venezuela is going to be like "oh, cool, ok"? The rest of the World is simply going to shrug? OPEC won't blink?

We have not in our recent history, personally experienced the reality of "war". Even Pearl Harbor was far, far away for most. We've glorified and whitewashed the rest of our violent history.

Funny thing is, the oil companies don't want it and it won't make them a lot of money. And they told him this. Oil would have to be well over $100 a barrel to see any profit out of it and that would take a decade of development, drilling, infrastructure, at a cost of billions.

The irony of invading Venezuela for the oil is that, while it does have massive reserves, it's one of the most expensive places to drill and export. These oil companies won't drill until the price per barrel goes way, way up. Otherwise they lose money.

I've been through multiple fire trainings, some far more in depth than others. One of the first things I do when entering any space is clock the exits and overall fire safety. I've walked out of more than a few places because of it. It's oft amazed me how few give it a single thought.
